They are now a common sight worldwide – and a multimillion-dollar business.
But their popularity has come with problems in Norway’s capital.

Lock the speed of the scooters to walking speed.
I think they’re limited to 20 km/h here in germany, which is slightly faster than most ride their bicycles in the city.
@Günther Gartenmann it’s slower than most bicycles, i get overtaken all the time on straight roads. The problem is more how easy you can accelerate and the “pay by the minute” concept. It means people drive full speed all the time
Normal speed is 20 km / h. But they are GPS controlled so when there are large crowds the speed is slowed down to 10 or 5 km / h.
Or just walk !

@Günther Gartenmann free if you actually bought one and costs near to nothing compared to a car and is convenient if your work and essentials are all in a close proximity in that case makes a car rarely needed and takes out the price of fuel which can in my country come to $80-$100 a week at least compared to maybe $10-$15 of electricity to charge them everyday for a week it definitely beats any car or other travel options when in terms of value and convenience

Transportation is not free in Norway. Its for you ekspensive. In Oslo $130 p.m. Scooter kost from $3,5 pr day or $30pr.m.
I’m in 🌉 and we could have told 🇳🇴 that these negative things were inevitable.
My small college town went through a scooter phase. Then after a couple years they just disappeared.
People genuinely hate the things… I’ve seen people get hundreds of them and throw them into lakes.

It’s a novel idea I know but give it a go.
walking isnt very quick and if you want to cycle you have to bring the bicycle with you. (which isn’t very convenient) But i agree, the e-scooters are an eyesore.
E scooters for me are much more convenient for me. Cycling to work is sweaty and I have no indoor place to lock my bicycle so I’m always a little apprehensive (had a bicycle stolen). walking to work would take me 2 hours as opposed to 30 mins on an scooter.
I’ve had so many bikes stolen, it’s not worth the “investment”

Been riding erides every day for 7 years. Longboard, hoverboard, Scooter, unicycle you name it. Fallen like 4 times fastest 40kmh, some scratches nothing much. Problem is so many people don’t understand you need some basic balance and physics to operate them safely. And that falling good is a skill that should be learnt as a young kid. 🤣
Meanwhile drivers are texting and driving yelling at bikes.

E-scooters might be helping if the electricity used to charge them was produced from clean sources, AND they weren’t using lithium-ion batteries which are incredibly harmful to the environment. I can only imagine the rate at which these guys are burning through them.

I had an e-scooter almost twenty years ago, long before they were even a thing. I ordered it from China on eBay and while it was fun for about a week I almost immediately traded up to a real scooter: a Yamaha Vino 50. That morphed into a Genuine Buddy 125 which morphed into a Piaggio BV 250. My point is that people are only satisfied with going 20MPH on two wheels for so long. Eventually they either give it up or move on to something which can take them further, faster.
If there is any indian in this comment section then please tell me where I can buy a E-scooter in India because I am also an indian citizen. I doubt if there are any E-scooter in India🇮🇳🇮🇳
