The spokesperson for the National Unity Government of Myanmar is accusing the military in northwest Myanmar of carrying out massacres of civilians and destroying their homes.
The destruction in the hilltop town of Thantlang, in Chin State, northwestern Myanmar, caused by artillery shells and fires set by Myanmar’s military, appears part of a concerted policy of scorched earth.
The military has not commented on the allegations.
Most of the town’s 10,000 residents have fled across the nearby border into India – powerless to do anything to save their homes.
Drone video – which matches satellite images – shows smoke billowing from the town of Thantlang in Chin State.

With the looming prospect of a loss of power, wealth, and freedom – the other generals could remove Min Aung Hlaing as a means of self-preservation and cooperate with the NUG.
Another possibility would be a bottom-up inside revolt. It’s estimated that less than 50 percent of the Security Forces are fully loyal and committed. Many Tatmadaw personnel and affiliates have a desire to revolt – encouraged by the depth and breadth of the countercoup movement. The Myanmar Security Forces are deeply divided by class and plagued by low morale. The generals operate like feudal kings, primarily focused on enriching themselves and their relatives, while enlisted personnel are paid and treated shabbily.

On December 27, President Joe Biden signed into law the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), this marks a shift in US govt policy on Myanmar. Section 6510 of the $770 billion NDAA calls for “supporting democracy in Burma”. The NDAA explicitly calls on the US govt to “support and legitimize the National Unity Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the civil disobedience movement in Myanmar, and other entities promoting democracy in Burma, while simultaneously denying legitimacy and resources to the Myanmar‘s military junta.” This is a big deal. By law, the US govt now has to support the NUG.

It is horrible what this military Junta has done to Myanmar. The foreign companies that have left and the terrorism towards the population. Earlier on they even released criminal from prisons to terrorize the public. ASEAN is so ineffective partly because most ASEAN countries are run by the military already. There are countless examples of crimes against humanity with this military and the world still won’t do anything. China and Russia like to veto anything that deters freedom and democracy.
