In this video, we will discuss some of the most effective negotiation tactics when buying a car.
Let’s be honest, the car buying process can be full of headaches, confusion, and stress. This video will provide you with the tools you need to gain the upper edge over a car dealership.
One of the first steps to getting a great deal on a car purchase is to fully understand the current conditions of the market. Do you know the current estimated value of the car you are considering purchasing? A great way to value a car is to utilize websites such as Kelley Blue Book or TrueCar.

Amen to that!
What negotiation tactics have you used? Share your story!
Research your brands and prices ahead of time so you KNOW what to go in with!
Don’t buy from a used dealer, particularly if a car has FSH (from dealership) and 1-2 owners who have clearly maintained it with no expense spared. Paying an unnecessary premium if you do in my opinion.
Don’t get emotionally attached and made up in your mind that you want it – which I did last time. As you say, being able to walk away if key.
Buy a well used car from elderly people.
@Richard Hernandez That is an awesome tip!
For my aunt’s car my dad just called different dealerships and said “can you beat this price” for the price the last dealership gave him until he got the lowest price possible. 17000 to 13000
What car do you prefer better a Mercedes or a Bmw
I’m on that Volvo life. But to answer your question I would have to choose BMW
That’s a toughy! 🙂
If the dealership doesn’t get the manager then you are not getting the best deal!
At least a few times going back and forth!
SO TRUE!
Car listed for *10k*
Buyer: I’ll give you *7k*
Seller: *No*
Buyer friend 1: I’ll give you *3k*
Buyer friend 2: I’ll give you *2.5k*
etc….
Original buyer: I’ll give you *7k*
Seller: *Take it!*
A damn genius!
Getting the lowest price and invest the rest. After that make it an uber to earn more. Then invest the rest of the money on your uber income. Bammmmmm money
One day people will invest in self driving Uber cars that run 24/7 without anyone in the drivers seat. People will own fleets of them, sort of like real estate
I get excited when I see the bell go off for your videos Nate! Always so much learning happening! Thanks!
Ah thanks for hitting that Bell notification icon! Appreciate all the support!
Extremely informative,
Side note: i bought 2 cars once with cash the other financed and Cash buying is so much less B.S 💪
I prefer buying in cash unless the interest rate is very very low!
@Nate O’Brien great point!!👌
GREAT LESSON !!! HOW MANY CARS AND WHAT CAR DO YOU HAVE ???
Arshdeep what is the specific question? I can try to help
O BRIEN DO YOU HAVE A LEXUS MUSTANG OR MCLAREN ??????
@Nate O’Brien
Lmk
Please
If you are paying cash just lowball them. Wait for the counter. Then meet in the middle.
The key is to not really care. Be willing to walk out
How long until you have as many subs as Graham? 🤔
Graham will always be one step ahead
I know Chris! He totally deserves it! 🙌💯
Nate gang ❤️❤️
Thanks for supporting the channel!
What’s the best car insurance for a 19 year old,
They all vary. It’s best to price it around.
I’m 19, and after shopping around I got the best rate with Geico!
It’s different for everyone. Every 6 months I check with many providers because it changes too.
Hey Nate am 25 years old I work at Walmart and I wanna learn how to invest but idk where to start …🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Luckily I have some stock market for beginners videos! Read a few investing books as well!
IN THE THUMBNAIL YOU LOOK BORED AND DO NOT FEEL LIKE DOUNG THE VIDEO XD NICE
6 am and I was tired haha
Make sure you have good/excellent credit if you are planning on financing! Bad credit will cost you a lot with terrible interest rates.
Oh so true
Great content because dealerships will try to take advantage of those young people who are buying their first car and don’t know what’s going on :/ , keep it up😅
It happened to many of my friends
Happened to the majority of my friends who recently bought a car after college
Thanks for the advice, might have my driver’s license soon, finally at age 26. But this will help a lot to get a good deal.
Wishing you the best of luck! Hope you know how to parallel park
Thanks for the advise! Definitely helpful for a first year teacher who needs to buy a car this summer. I’ll try to do the research and be confident as a young woman walking in to buy a car.
Don’t be afraid to walk out if you’re not getting anywhere on your negotiation. More than likely they’ll be calling you up afterwards if it shows that you’re serious and just looking to make a fair deal. 🙂
Wishing you the best of luck Laura. Make sure that you set a fair price for the vehicle that you are looking for and hold your ground. They have a lot of very persuasive sales tactics
Hate buying a car. It’s like walking into a pit of snakes.
Agreed. But sometimes it has a to be done
Great video. Maybe you should call Scribner and tell him how to buy a used couch off Craigslist?
Boo. Are use craigslist very often and have never had any trouble. Mistakes can be made. Hopefully he recoups the cost
I was looking for a video like this from a while!
I will watch it again before buying my new car!
“You wanna know the value of the vehicle” This is true Nate. Keep up the good work 🙂
Currently in the process… Looking at a KIA Telluride. So much of this goes out the door when you’re trying to buy a vehicle that’s somewhat limited production and selling less than a few days after being on the lot. 🙁
246Louie/ReD_DeviL1906 telluride aren’t they like 40k
246Louie/ReD_DeviL1906 better to get a 4runner it will last forever
@Taras Pylypiv Yeah Telluride and the Hyundai Palisade anywhere from low thirties to high forties. Really great deals when you compare to equal size luxury SUVs.
“If your paying $600 a month for a vehicle and only making $30,000 a month” that would be a dream come true.
Sometimes I mistakenly say the wrong words 🙂
Nate: Don’t buy a car it’s so expensive and can impact your finance.
Also Nate: hOw To BuY a CaR
Brian Alvarez when did he say don’t buy a car? I can’t imagine him saying that since it’s pretty much required to live.
R M on his videos about saving money. He said dont buy a car depending where you live and how far the places are. Because he mentions a fact saying that American spend thousands of dollars a year on car related stuff and suggested that we shouldnt buy a car or at least not a new car
I believe he’s moved to LA.. I believe…
Don’t buy the car if you don’t have to. Most people do need a car, so therefore I figured this video would help them save some money.
Two things I hate most – paying taxes & negotiating the price of a car (evan with all the research before hand).
Me too Ken, it can be a real headache
One important factor is try to buy a car when it’s not an emergency. If you don’t need the car, it’s much easier to walk away. My last car I walk in and didn’t play much if the numbers games. I walked in and said “I want this car for this price. I don’t care what numbers you want to play with as long as that bottom line is what I want”. They played all the games but I just kept repeating that. After about the fourth counter offer I said “If you come back to me with another offer I’m leaving”. The manager came over and I was preparing to leave. He shook my hand and we closed the purchase.
That’s one of the most straightforward way to buy a car! Give them your offer and if they don’t except just walk out and wait for them to call you
Love you! This is great!
Hey thanks John! Appreciate the support
I love my 2003 Ford Focus 😀 great video btw
Ford focus saves a lot of money! Smart move
About the only thing I think you left out is before you buy, you make a call to your insurance agent and find out if the car you are thinking about getting, has decent insurance rates to it.
Very smart, I forgot to include that in this video. I appreciate your input
*The power lies with the person willing to walk away from the deal!*
One of the best ways is to just not care!
I wish I was only making 30,000 a month 😉😂😂
Me too, me too
What if your a car guy
If it’s a hobby and it makes you happy then I wouldn’t worry about it as much
Thanks bro, I’m saving up for a car and I’ll buy it all cash so that I can get a good value
It’s hard to go wrong when paying in cash
What’s your opinion of electric cars?
I’m looking into a Chevy volt and I hear especially here in California there are a lot of tax benefits
You generally can save decent amount of money thanks to tax benefits for electric vehicles. I’m not sure on the Specifics in California
Another advice, buy yourself 10 years old car from first owner if is good with cash and drive it like you stole it.
Some of the best cars can come from elderly people who properly maintain the vehicles and keep it in the garage
Great advice. I bought a new car back in April. I made the mistake of letting them know that I had 2 trade-ins and gave them as much information about my cars in advance. Their sales manager quoted me certain prices via email. When I arrived, they pulled a bait and switch on me. The salesperson said that the vehicle I agreed to purchase had been damaged and that a higher spec one was available. I had a quoted price on the that model too. They did not honor it. I made sure to detail this when I gave an honest review on the survey. Never shopping there again.
Sorry to hear that Carlos, sometimes they can pull fast ones on us, thanks for sharing your experience
a car dealer purchased a pizza for my friend’s family because he didn’t want them to leave the dealership for lunch and then come back…
what lav mic u r wearing plz post the description. thnx.
i got almost 4k for my 16yr old trade in haha (and i had purchased it for 4.5k and had it for over 4 years). The only thing i regret doing is not waiting another month for the eofys sale (or better yet end of year run out sale) but i was on a time crunch (and i purchased a brand new car). You should shop around beforehand on insurance too. Our uber driver in LA told us he had called his insurance, said whats the best, least stolen car and he went and bought that.
Nice new setup
Great points Nate! I believe, if the longer the car is on the lot, the more willing they’ll be to get rid out it for a lower price! CarGuru gives this info
This is good. I’m actually looking into buying a new car.
Thank you!!
Cars here in Puerto Rico are more expensive , I always use KBB app and I used infront of the seller hahaa Then I say what is the lowest price , he tell me the price then I lower his price by $2500 they always tell me it can be done but I always get the car that I want at the price I want I also did this for my home.
Being able to see what you need is not always what you “want”
The best advice you gave in this lesson was the last advice you gave. You pointed out that buying what you can afford and using your money wisely is more important in the long plan than trying to impress people with expensive cars. Every person who learns that lesson will do their homework and become better shoppers in general and better car buyers in particular. Thanks for the info.
Just don’t buy from a dealership.
I’m looking for a pick up truck. I’m in New Jersey. If you have one for sale let me know.
It’s a dumb move to buy a BMV if you’re trying to be an entrepreneur and still working that minimum wage Job.
