Looks like Putin is going to use/put Belarus in the line of fire and let Belarus be destroyed as a buffer. The troops being brought in to spearhead the ground assaults are from “central Asia” so they won’t have issues with killing their “Slavic brothers”. Putin knows *China* wants all the giant “free store” natural resources of Siberia and Central Asia along its border (including Kazakhstan). If Ukraine is invaded by Russia, Putin is leaving “eastern” Russia totally defenseless against the ramping up of the Chinese military. China is going to eventually “recover/reclaim” central Asia and Siberia north of Mongolia and east of the Ob/Irtysh and Yenisei Rivers. When Putin starts something with the west and is weak, China will invade and “protect” Eastern Russia, aka, take the land westward all the way to “Slavic” Russia.

But the real punishment will come in the form of US sanctions. Russia laughed off sanctions imposed since it invaded and annexed Crimea illegally and for its illegal activities in the Eastern Ukraine region called Donbass. They say its GDP fell by 1.5% as a result of the sanctions. But the Russian Ruble has dropped from 29 to the US dollar to 78, the standard of living for most Russians has declined. The sanctions were designed to stagnate the Russian economy at a low level denying it access to international finance institutions and much technology it need for its energy and military. And it has accomplished its task. But the next round will be intended to destroy Russia’s economy and the United States alone could do that by itself but it will have the support of EU members and NATO members not in the EU such as Canada as well as others. If Germany buys Russian gas through Nordstream 2 despite an invasion, Joe Biden all but said he would order the US Navy to destroy it. It is not clear if Russia will be denied access to the SWIFT money transfer system , the US dollar or the Euro. Actually in light of the other sanctions it hardly matters.

Bad strategy by Putin imo. He has tried to get concessions from NATO under the threat of using some kind of force against Ukraine. The West are not budging and so Putin has put himself into a corner. He has to do something else he will look weak back home. It is for this reason that I am sure he will act. What he choses to do is anyone’s guess. My guess is that it will be a small incursion into eastern Ukraine. That way, both the West and Putin have a way to back down without the potential for escalation
