Russia was trying to avoid civilian deaths. The real Russian military is brutal. You have no idea what they will do to Ukraine now that Zelensky has foolishly galvanised his entire people, civilians, and soldiers alike, as well as freed criminals. There is a ruthless efficiency to Russian destruction. They do not leave until the job is done. This could have all been prevented if Kiev had avoided sucking up to NATO and EU and adhered to 1991 agreements as well Minsk agreement. Instead, they have allowed war crimes for over 8 years against their own former citizens leading to 14,000 + deaths including 91 children in Angel Alley. Kiev has employed Nazis as an official part of the military and allowed them to enter politics and win 2% vote. Zelensky recently asked for nukes. Do not believe the bs media story, the very same people who said that Iraq had WMDs. Putin is not a good guy, but neither is the Western supporters of Ukraine.

And yet despite this, when it comes down to it, one group of people who happen to be white (Ukrainians) decide to stand up against oppressors and another group who happen to be brown/middle eastern (Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq) run away, pretend to be children, steal from their citizens and refuse to stand up to their oppressors , expecting those that do stand up to protect them and take care of them like babies. Does the color of your skin really determine whether or not you stand up against oppression.
