The DOJ alleges that a high-ranking member of the Yakuza, Takeshi Ebisawa, was the central figure in a plot to funnel American weapons to ethnic militias in Myanmar in exchange for heroin and meth. Ebisawa is charged with narcotics importation, money laundering, and conspiracy to acquire surface to air missiles, if convicted he could face up to life in prison.

Why not just let the guns & ammo get to the insurgents that are fighting an oppressive regime and then just dispose of the drugs?You don’t have to do what has been done in the past and actually sell the drugs in US cities…signals that the US government and intelligence agencies either don’t want to get involved in Myanmar or think they can work better with the military dictatorship now in power there. No reason to blow this up and release the info to the media. The only reasons to release the evidence to the world media would be because the US doesn’t support the Myanmar insurgency or it’s that the Yakuza have done this many times before with real success and are a legitimate big time importer of illicit drugs in to the US. No chance this is the first time the Yakuza have done this, just the first time they have been caught. These are the smaller news stories that fall under the radar when there are major headline stories like the Ukraine War that in 5 years will be actual the headlines.
