At least one person has died in India as violent protests over a new military recruitment program spread across multiple states.
Currently, young recruits are automatically offered a permanent role.
But under the new policy, they will be let go from the military after four years without pension or benefits.

This scheme was suggested by the armed forces to the govt. Not the other way around. Armed forces want the average age of personells to become younger to construct a more leaner , meaner and fitter army. We should understand that indian army is a voluntary army , do your service to the nation and return back to your lives. Even the govt is providing a good salary of 30000 and a sewa package of 12 lacks at end of the tenure. So that the person can finance his education easily , or start a business and become entrepreneurs. People can say what they want i am going to join this scheme and serve my nation , as long it wants me to . And if i am selected it will be a honor for me to serve my life for my country. I think some reforms like increasing the enrollment age , extend service period by 5 to 6 years , after the service allocate all those who will not be selected in the mainstream army to various other law enforcememt agenices like CRPF , police, CAPF , disaster management corps and others.
