Sri Lanka is sending two government ministers to Russia to negotiate for fuel – as pumps run dry.
The army has been deployed to the few stations that have any fuel left, to help implement a new rationing system.
The government has extended a two-week closure of non-essential state institutions.
There’s been widespread anger at the president because of decades of economic mismanagement.

Russia is not going to give its oil to Sri Lanka for free. No one will give something for nothing in this world, there is always a catch. Any efforts at all towards renewables? Surely they have sun in Sri Lanka? When your talking about billions of dollars of energy needs, enough is enough. These purchases will put entire country’s in danger, further funding Russia’s illegal war effort.
Problem is that solar panels for e.g are expensive also there isnt really a chain store economy in SL except for Cargills and a few others but they are usually small stores compared to western equivilants.Small businesses dont have the money to invest for such projects and the govt seemed only interested in mega projects like enormous ports/roads etc.

There’s some independence of our Judiciary still. The aircraft was grounded due to a court order after the leasing company in Europe filed a case to recover the aircraft in Colombo Commercial Court. It was due to a court order and not “arrogance”. It would be best to check up facts before posting/
