Military leaders say they will form a transitional, civilian-led government and organise, what they call, credible elections.
The West African regional bloc ECOWAS has condemned the coup.
In the coming hours, the UN Security Council will meet to discuss the crisis.

I see many comments here trying to warn the civilians, but my question is, why not address the root cause of these events in Africa, African leaders have nothing to offer besides stealing and saving money in foreign banks, they never used the so called good schools and hospitals they build, they will send their kids to foreign schools, and hospitals, corruption and nepotism, ineptitude with incompetence becomes the order of the day, dissolving the constitution for a third term has become the norm. The same faith awaits the president of Gambia, one of the most useless president on earth as we speak, he has no vision nor wisdom. Africa will never progress as long as the mentality of justifying corruption is not rooted out with greedy bastards running the country, yet we wonder why these types of things happen. Is hard for African presidents to leave in peace.

History proved that western democracy doesn’t suit to many African countries. Maybe it’s better for you to take election based on tribes or communities, and let those who are respectable to vote for a final leader. OR don’t voting, just chose officials based on their qualifications, just like China. Poor countries need stability and competitive leadership to improve the economy. Maybe you can send officials to other countries, and see different political system and think how they run. And choose one best based on the reality and culture of Mali.

How can a democratic government be so bad that the citizens welcome a military coup? Africa is about to be really free. Unless we will be seeing a war between the citizens of a country and the military. The military does not have enough bullets to suppress the citizens ,it is only out of love for one’s country that makes the military control. But when that love is lost or continually betrayed,the wrath of the people will make the army flee.

Military coup is not usually a good thing, especially in Africa, history has shown us that many times, for example during a rebel insurgency in the neighboring countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia in the 1990’s a coup d’etat send those countries into a ten year tail spin and that has yet to recover. In Mali the factors are too great to ignore for any near term success; Strong and motivated insurgents from the North continues, tribal division, failing economy and a global pandemic. I pray for the people of Mali.

Well if they promised 🤔 … how many times have we seen this? africa as a continent is the richest in the world, they have every natural resource on the planet including natural renewable to harness, they have the work drive and an ambitious population, they have an African Union that is meant to mirror administrative organisations like the European Union , yet they have hostilities between eachother and are not United in diversity at all. Women, children and the poor are always the ones to pay the highest price in these cases. We have seen that insurgents who fill power vacuums exploit this in to dictatorship or religious radicalism or political radicalism, usually attacking the richer to “give to the poor,” which is not fair to the earners and taxpayers of Mali either.
