In the south of Ukraine, there has been fierce fighting as Ukrainian forces tries to gain ground in a counteroffensive to retake ground occupied by Russian troops.
Officials say it will not be a quick operation and are asking Ukrainians to be patient.
The Ukrainian military has seen some modest victories in this counter offensive, retaking a handful of villages in the region, but has yet to mount a push to Kherson city where more fortified Russian defences await.
Winter is coming soon. Conditions will make it much harder for troops to maneuver. That is why both sides trying to lock in gains on the battlefield. The Ukrainians trying to push the offensive in Kherson, and Russia looking to entrench even further. Through it all, civilians just looking to find any place to stay safe.

Yes Russia has no chance to supply Kherson properly all Ukraine has to do is keep
choking Russia’s supply lines and the Russian troops will slowly loose combat effectiveness. The US gamed this out and even got Ukraine to announce their offensive
weeks earlier so Russia would race heavy equipment and men in. Then they started
smashing the bridges and supply lines knowing just feeding Kherson will be impossible
long term.

The initial advance failed terribly, having to retreat from the north and west and refocus their efforts in the south and east. They’ve had some slow success in the east, Australia none in the south and have failed to take Kharkiv after 200 days despite ot being a border city. I have been very surprised. When the war started, I assumed Russia would have the country under their control within a few weeks (with lots of small skirmishes by Ukrainian resistance similar to what U.S. saw in Iraq).

They have also lost half of their tanks for their whole army. It is a total embracement for them. Ukraine news are not allowed to report on their counter offensive. Every morgue and hospital in that region is over capacity with Ukraine soldiers. Ukraine special ops that tried to take control of nuclear power plant were killed, around 300 of them, now the dead bodies are found floating down dnipro river.
