Authorities are in a real pickle here. The university probably is the engine that powers the town and they don’t want hysteria shutting it down. On the other hand they can’t yet say with any certainty who did it or why. Seemingly nothing they can say is right. If it’s a party house, Lord only knows how much DNA and how many fingerprints are in there. Further, both those databases may well not include much that helps. When you try this killer you’d better be certain that you’re right. If you’re wrong and he’s acquitted the real killer has the defense that you were previously POSITIVE that it wasn’t me.

I personally believe there are ego trips leading to miscommunication here. I saw the DC detective put the local cops on blast in the first week of this and I thought, uh oh. Who’s actually in charge here? If everyone is in charge, no one is in charge and that is precisely why I’ve been reaching out to 4 different resources on this. I think the main tip line is overwhelmed.
I can see how there would be contention between FBI and local PD. Cops are notorious for having massive yet extremely fragile egos. Local PDs probably don’t typically give warm welcomes to Feds. Of course feds are going to be much more seasoned when it comes to crimes of this scale but they’re still coming in at a disadvantage bc there’s just certain things about a community and the people of a community you can’t know unless you live there or are from there. This would be information the local cops would have but could be hesitant to give the feds. There probably are communication issues and a lack of freely sharing information between agencies. The local cops are probably itching to be the ones to ‘win’ so they can show up the feds. But I said ‘maybe’, ‘could be’, and ‘probably’ a lot so I’m obviously just speculating and can’t possibly know what’s really going on up there. Maybe it’s just me but I thought it was odd how the mayor gave an interview right away and said this was ‘targeted’ and ‘a crime of passion’. He’s since went back on that but like what business does a mayor have commenting on an ongoing investigation? I could see the mayor offering condolences, reassuring the town, and encouraging people to trust and support the police dept, but the way he was acting as if he were a part of the investigation and making those comments that he did just came off like he was grasping for any reason to get a little attention for himself. He’s no part of law enforcement and had no business whatsoever claiming it was ‘a crime of passion’. Who is he to determine that?
The mayor, university used incorrect terms 1st day, “crime of passion”, compounded by cops glibly announcing “targeted atrack” without really knowing, rather just calming the community. Seems like a lot less “lingo” use would have been clearer for all. E.g. “it was a passionate crime” means way different than crime of passion.

Like Charles Manson. They targeted the Tate house in 69 not because of the people that lived in the house, but because that’s where a music producer that turned down Manson used to live. Didn’t matter who was inside, it was all about that house.
If it is true that it was the house that was targeted and not a person, then this was a serial killer. I said from the very beginning that I didn’t think the roommates were targeted personally, and I’m definitely no expert, but I’ve also said from the beginning that this case has serial killer written all over it. Just my opinion. I also do think the animal killings just prior to this and in the same area was done by the same person. And I’m not talking about just the dog, there was a rabbit too that was skinned with it’s ears cut off about a week before the dog was killed according to the dog owner.
I don’t think that makes sense because 2 of the 6 people there that night were left alive (thank goodness).

I saw footage of the man in charge crying, which is never a good sign. You have to be able to put emotions on the back burner in cases like this! They’ve botched it.
This is a small town. They are not like big city police who have years and years of working homicides just as brutal as these were. They haven’t been hardened by horrific crimes enough to “put their emotions aside.” IMO it’s better that they ARE emotional because they are MORE motivated to solve the case and find the piece of crap monster who did this to those students. And seriously, do you think YOU wouldn’t cry if YOU had to walk in on something as awful as that? Have a heart and give them a break.
@Scootermom These people are trained to keep their emotions in check! Yes, it must be emotionally draining but you cannot allow your emotions to get in the way. I most likely would cry.. that’s why I’m not cut out for that job! This case needs headstrong professionals at the helm.
This is going to hurt the police department. People are going to start not trusting what you are saying if you can’t get your facts straight. This police department needs to ask for more help in my opinion from a bigger department or even more federal help from the FBI. This case sickened me, I’m 24 I just started my life with my daughter. These young adults around my age were killed over nothing & now they don’t ever get to experience what I’m getting to experience with my daughter. It just puts things into perspective for me, & I hope whoever did this is caught & gets whatever he/she have coming to them.
@les0101s As far as I understand cases fall under local jurisdiction unless they decide they can’t handle the case and hand it over to someone else. If that is true , which I am not sure it is, that is the point I am trying to make. No one trusted them since the begging, so they need to just release this case to someone with more experience or power… 🤷🏻♂️ just my opinion though man

Meaning they are the lead in this case, what I am saying is they need to release this case entirely to the FBI or State Police. Making them the lead , not local PD. I think State Police or FBI would be making smarter decisions & would be more organized in releasing information to the public also.

As a Mom who lost her 34 yr. old child, my heart breaks for these families. Their babies died in such a horrific way…they will move on with life but will be forever changed. Heartfelt condolences.

The fact the two blonds were killed in the bed together tells it all. One of them were clearly the target, I’m guessing Kaylee. Ethan woke up after hearing the attack and he was killed next, hence why he was found outside the bedroom. Xana was killed next as the killer felt he had to get rid of her too. But the killer went upstairs first so this clearly was targeted, otherwise it would have been Ethan and Xana dead together in the same room.

They obviously have some information confirming this was a targeted attack, which makes complete sense to me because there (thankfully) were 2 students who hadn’t been killed. If it was a targeted attack, then it makes sense that the killer wouldn’t necessarily be a threat to the community. The killer was after 4 students, specifically, so the killer wouldn’t likely be going after anyone else. But, a killer on the loose who may still have his weapon with him IS a potential threat because if he is confronted and still has his weapon, he obviously would try hurting or killing anyone who confronted him. This makes perfect sense.

Kaylee’s sister was able to get the corrected time of arrival of the 2 girls from the grub truck by looking at the neighbor’s cam log. So very possibly, this cam had visibility, part or all of the 1122 grounds including the front of the house. So if the cam was running all night, it would have captured cars of unknown appear at the parking space very likely. Maybe even captured if someone entered or exited the front door of the house. This could b major piece of evidence. Why nobody talking about this ?
Probably isn’t any cam footage of cars coming to/from the residence because the killer lived nearby and was able to walk there….
So basically the cops are using information garnered from a Reddit sub. That’s how they’re heading this investigation. Speculation just like the rest of us.
