Rights groups say Colombia’s controversial security law violates human rights and the opposition says they will challenge it in the Constitutional Court.
The law claims to guarantee citizen security with tougher penalties, but critics say it violates the Constitution, dangerously expanding self-defence laws among other provisions.
It also increases penalties for damaging public infrastructure or when protesters wear a mask, potentially turning protesters into criminals.
The bill was approved by Congress this week and is expected to be signed off by President Ivan Duque.

@Stanislav Idalgo Yeah and to think Europeans have the gall to make fun of us for having rights they don’t. It boggles the mind. They call us the Wild West or they’ll say that we have more shootings than any other country so that somehow makes us a bad Nation. What they fail to mention is that America is also the only country where mass shooters have been stopped dead in their tracks by a law abiding citizen with a gun who happened to be in the right place at the right time to protect people. Or maybe how many violent home invasions have been stopped by legal firearm owners. These people are convinced the State is there to protect them but we Americans know better. The State is here to exploit us and that’s it.

I was just pointing out that the rich can kill the poor without consequence in any country and it was laughable that this guy used that as an example.
