After receiving a full body cosmetic procedure in Matamoros, Mexico, a woman was hospitalized for fungal meningitis, a rare infection that targets the brain and spinal cord. Several other cases of the infection have been tied to clinics in Matamoros, including four Americans who died. NBC News’ Ellison Barber has more.

She might not have survived. Jackie Oh said her head was hurting right before she died after her procedure, and that sounds like the symptom of spinal meningitis the doctor on this video is describing.

The absolute worst Botched episode ever was the woman who got a tummy tuck in Mexico. She ignorantly and consciously consented to the surgery AFTER they administered anesthesia, which was a block of ice, all because of the “deal” she was getting from the dr a friend recommended. Her final results included pubic hair growing out of her new belly button and an almost fatal case of MRSA. IT’S NOT WORTH IT!!
Don’t risk your life for a few pesos😢 Good medicine is not as expensive as bad medicine. And now her hospital bill will be at least $1 million😮

Here is the thing. Going to Mexico for expensive medication like insulin is one thing. But getting a cosmetic surgery when you don’t know the country or how to navigate the system when you don’t live there is not the best idea. There are good and bad doctors in Mexico, just like in the USA. But unless you have family there who has more experience with differentiating between the good and the bad, you’ll run into trouble. Best do more complicated things in Canada or Europe if you are a non native speaker or don’t have family in Mexico. I recently got Botox in Mexico. But I only did it because i have family in Mexico in the medical field who recommended a doctor.

Why are women still doing this it’s not worth it. My mom used to take us to Mex for dental work as kids and now it’s cost me so much money to correct what they did when I was a kid.
My sister went to Mexico to get her tubes untied so she could have more children, and it was successful and she had 2 sons after the procedure.

I’ve looked into dental implants in the US and Mexico, the price deference is staggering. 50,000 in the US compared to 10,000 or less in Mexico….maybe the us should pay attention to the lives that are lost instead of the money they are going to make.

I’m definitely going to Mexico to get work done on my teeth. I’ve spent over $10,000 on three root canals here in the United States that all failed. That’s like setting fire to money. And my dentist accidentally extracted 2 teeth instead of one. The cost of dental care in the United States is ludicrous. You can save thousands of dollars by going to Mexico and the quality of work is just as good if not better.

People kept telling me to go abroad to get a cosmetic procedure because i will save a lot of money since its cheaper but honestly i just went with my intuition and it was telling me to be safe then sorry even if that meant i had to spend more at least im alive and im very grateful for that 😢❤.
