Niger’s coup leaders are accusing French troops of carrying out a plan to destabilise the country.
They say French forces released ‘captured terrorists’ in the east of the country and French aircraft have violated its airspace.
But no evidence has been provided.
France has more than a thousand soldiers in Niger, as part of a mission against armed groups.
France has denied the accusations.

American troops, French troops and other groups all in the same country. I think a coup is not a surprise if that’s the case. Would any country allow this level of outside intervention for so long without any consequences. I don’t think the US would allow any military group occupy their land for the purposes of fighting a terrorist group. Everyone knows the firepower and military technology that the US and French troops have but failed to win against disjointed military groups shows maybe they were not thereto help but had other agenda.
Both French and American troops failure to take care of the terrorist groups have led to the coups. Why don’t they actually do the job in which they were there to do in the first place but allowed the terrorist groups to exist in their door step as long as they don’t cause too much chaos. It shows they were there almost to ensure the region remained destabilised.
You do realize how widespread the terrorism problem is in Africa? If the US had an extremely difficult time dissolving the terrorist groups in the Middle East with a large military focus there, can you imagine what it would take to do the same in what is basically the entire continent of Africa? Americans aren’t in Africa to destroy the terrorist groups; they’re there to make sure they don’t get out of control while also training and hoping that domestic forces in these countries solve the problem themselves, as they should be doing in the first place.
