the Palenqueros are poor because they don´t want the help of the goberment, that is the different part between them and the Choco people. The palenque was discovered 30 years ago for the Cartagena people. They were with no contact to the other parts of Colombia because the needed to be secure and hide from the Colonia then they never went out, and nowadays they don do it, and don´t want any help.

With all due respect I must say that the people indeed have African elements, but it is not a (partly) preserved African culture. Not even the language is African, but (Colombian) Spanish.
The only country I know has preserved African culture and the Kromanti language is Suriname, where African based societies were founded by marroons. There is even a village named Dahomey, referencing to the origins of the founders. In the Surinamese marroon villages people live in traditional huts according to the social structure of that Marroon tribe. The Surinamese version of Voodoo, called Winti, is now a formally recognised religion. Haïti is the other country I know, with the strongest African cultural presence. From Jamaica I know there are many marroon societies where they speak a creole language similar to the Surinamese creole, but in Jamaica they call it Kromanti.
They speak spanish but they also speak palenquero mostly, which is a language that comes from their african ancestors, the language changed some elements over time, thats whysm is called palenquero.
In Palenque the official language is Palenquero which is actually the only Spanish Bantu language that is still spoken in the American continent. There are several English and French Bantu languages but Spanish only Palenquero.

I’m studying Afro-Latinos in the early 16th century Florida and circum-Caribbean. Even though I’m not studying South America, two towns keep coming up. Both Cartagena and Lima seemed to be ground zero when it comes to Afro-Latinos in the early exploration of the New World.

That is because Cartagena was a slavery port during the time of the colony when the tyrant ruled. Hundreds of Africans were taken to Colombia as slaves through Cartagena. Cartagena was the New York city of the slave trade. The same happened in Lima, I believe.
