Palestinians strike against planned demolitions in East Jerusalem

Israeli authorities are stepping up demolitions in occupied East Jerusalem after the cabinet announced punitive measures against Palestinians early this week. Palestinians in Jabel Mukaber closed streets and poured oil on the roads to stop Israeli forces from razing their homes. At least fifteen Palestinians were injured during confrontations. Pope Francis is visiting the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan this week to deliver a message of peace and reconciliation to the two countries hit by the conflict.
