0 A strong earthquake has hit central Croatia, with injuries reported as well as considerable damage to buildings southeast of the capital. The earthquake was felt throughout the country on Tuesday, as well as in neighbouring Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center said a magnitude earthquake hit 46km (17 miles) southeast of Zagreb. A super typhoon has barrelled into the eastern Philippines bringing “catastrophic” winds and intense rains as about a million people were evacuated in its projected path including in the capital, Manila, where the main international airport was ordered closed. Officials said at least seven people had been killed. Severe floods and landslides triggered by weeks of heavy rains have killed at least 105 people in central Vietnam and “swamped” five million, according to media reports and an aid agency. About a third of the dead included soldiers whose barracks were buried under deadly mudslides last week, Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday. At least 27 people are still missing, the agency said. Among them are 15 construction workers who were also hit by a landslide. At least 178,000 homes have been submerged and nearly 7,000 hectares (17,297 acres) of crops have been affected. The MV Wakashio ship still has more than half of its 4,000 tonnes of fuel on board after running aground off Mauritius last month.
