Azerbaijan-Armenia: More casualties in Nagorno-Karabakh’s main city

Fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh has continued for a second week as Armenia and Azerbaijan battle over the breakaway region. So far, the two rivals are ignoring international appeals for a ceasefire and have accused each other of causing civilian and military casualties since the fighting on September 27. About 300 people have been reported killed overall, but the real death toll is believed to be higher. ‘Very sorry’: Kim Jong Un apologises for killing of South Korean

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has apologised after the fatal shooting of a South Korean fisheries official by the military earlier this week, Yonhap news agency reported on Friday, citing the presidential office. In a formal letter sent to Seoul, the North conveyed Kim’s message that he felt “very sorry” for “disappointing” South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Moon is facing intense political pressure over the incident, which coincided with a renewed push for policy to engage Pyongyang. Israeli gets life in prison for murdering Palestinian family

An Israeli court handed a Jewish settler three life sentences on Monday for murdering a Palestinian toddler and his parents in an arson attack on their home in the occupied West Bank. Amiram Ben-Uliel, 25, was sentenced by the Lod court following his conviction in May for the 2015 killings. He was also found guilty of two counts each of attempted murder and arson, along with conspiracy to commit a hate crime. The arson attack killed 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh. His mother, Riham, and father, Saad, later died of their wounds.
