Myanmar’s protesters start to flee country

Myanmar’s security forces have been intensifying their crackdown on anti-coup protesters and people are now starting to flee. They have not attempted to leave the country in large groups yet, but neighbouring Thailand is preparing for the possibility of refugees. But one of Myanmar’s ethnic armies that controls territory along the border says it is already sheltering hundreds who have fled the violence. India orders deportation of migrants who fled Myanmar military coup

People in the Indian state of Mizoram are welcoming migrants who have fled the military coup in Myanmar. The government, however, is ordering their deportation. Hundreds of people have crossed the border, including police officers and soldiers who say they fled because they were ordered to open fire on pro-democracy protesters. South China Sea dispute: Philippines wants Chinese ships to leave reef

The Philippines is urging Beijing to recall hundreds of fishing vessels that it said were spotted near the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The Philippine military released photos of Chinese ships at the disputed Whitsun reef claimed by both countries. The Chinese Embassy says these vessels were not part of any maritime militia but fishing boats taking shelter during rough seas. Western sanctions on China over Xinjiang trigger furious response

The United States, the European Union, UK and Canada have jointly placed sanctions on Chinese officials for human rights abuses against Uighur Muslims in the Xinjiang region. Beijing in turn issued sanctions on several European politicians.
