Tokyo braces for Hagibis, worst typhoon to hit city in 60 years

More than a million Japanese have been advised to leave their homes as Typhoon Hagibis approaches Tokyo. One of the strongest ever storms in Japan, Hagibis is expected to batter the capital with record amounts of rain and high winds. Iran’s Zarif arrives for surprise G7 talks, no plan to meet US

Iran’s top diplomat has arrived in France for surprise talks at the G7 summit, an official announced, as US President Donald Trump appeared to brush aside French efforts to mediate with Tehran. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif landed on Sunday in the French seaside town of Biarritz, where leaders of the G7 nations – the United States, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan – are holding their annual gathering. Japan’s maglev train breaks world speed record

On a test track west of Tokyo, Japan’s Superconducting Maglev train hits 603km/h an hour, breaking the world train speed record. The test is part of an ambitious plan to build a $47bn high-speed line between Tokyo and Nagoya. If completed as planned in 2027 the 280km between the two could be travelled in around 40 minutes.
