After being encircled by Ukrainian forces, Russia has pulled its troops out of the strategic eastern Ukrainian city of Lyman – the latest victory for Kyiv’s counteroffensive. In the south of Ukraine, there has been fierce fighting as Ukrainian forces tries to gain ground in a counteroffensive to retake ground occupied by Russian troops. Officials say it will not be a quick operation and are asking Ukrainians to be patient. The President’s announcement comes as Ukrainian forces claim they have damaged two important bridges across the Dnipro River vital to the lines of supply to Russian troops in and around Kherson, Reuters reports. White House officials have confirmed that the United States will send M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, also known as HIMARS, to war-torn Ukraine. The medium-range rocket systems have long topped the lists of weapons requests by Kyiv as fighting against Russian forces has concentrated in the eastern regions of the country.
