Russia has ordered its forces to withdraw from the Ukrainian city of Kherson, the only regional capital seized by President Vladimir Putin’s troops since the war began.
The announcement on Wednesday followed weeks of Ukrainian advances towards the city and signalled a potentially huge blow to Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, which it invaded in late February.
In televised comments, General Sergei Surovikin said it was no longer possible to keep Kherson city supplied.

When the Russians are withdrawing from Kherson it is very bad news for Ukraine and NATO. They will advance onto muddy conditions and will be bogged down allowing for missile strikes, rocket strikes and shelling and especially open for Suicide drones to pick off at will the Ukrainians. It will be easy pickings. The winter leaves will fall exposing all Ukrainian positions and hidden artillery pieces and tanks. It will be death in the thousands for Ukrainian troops and artillerymen and tank crews. The KIA Tally is going to be enormous for the Ukrainians.
The journalist didn’t say which area would be flooded if the dam was blown up. It would be the Russian occupied area, which might be why they retreated. Russian won’t blow the dam because it holds the water needed for the nuclear power plant cooling system. News agencies become so misleading in their reporting that it is hard to listen to.

As Ukraine’s economy has been destroyed the only chance to make money for men is joining military. And their “bravery” is based on money they send to their families. If he surrenders, he would preserve his life, but the family would not receive any support anymore. This is only reason why they don’t surrender on massive scale. Because they have the choice of either being destroyed and losing the city OR withdrawing and losing the city…. They are going to lose the city either way so they announce it so it’s on their terms. They had no good option to keep the city as their supply lines have been severely disrupted with the damage to the Kerch Bridge and the bridges over the Dnieper river.
They keep having to lower the scope of what they can call a “victory” as they lose more men and equipment. Originally they obviously had far bigger goals for this invasion than they have managed to achieve. At this rate it seems about they best they can hope for is holding onto Crimea and reaching some sort of negotiated settlement in Donbass where the territory remains as part of Ukraine but with some sort of devolved regional autonomy.

Russia announces it’s withdrawn. Ukraine doesn’t want to attack. So what is happening? Ukraine was about to destroy the dam and western media will blame Russia. Sort of like the UK bombs Nord Stream and western media blames Russia. Ukraine has had a news blackout, typical for a few weeks before an actual military operation. But it looks like Ukraine’s NATO advisors don’t know what to do. If Ukraine moves a lot of Troops in and Russia blows up the dam, that’ll be a problem. But will Ukraine now just sit there and wait for winter to freeze everyone?
