Ukraine war: Death toll from attack in Dnipro rises

The death toll from a Russian missile attack that destroyed an apartment building in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro has risen to 23, regional council head Mykola Lukashuk says, while 73 people were injured. Russia carried out three air raids, 57 missile attacks and 69 attacks from heavy weapon rocket salvo systems on Saturday, Ukraine’s top military command says. Top Philippines court blocks South China Sea oil exploration deal

The Philippine Supreme Court has ruled that an 18-year-old agreement with China and Vietnam to search for oil in the South China Sea is unconstitutional. Battles in the east: Fighting continues in Soledar and Bakhmut

Ukraine has refuted Russian claims it has captured the eastern town of Soledar. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his forces are still fighting in the small salt-mining town, which Moscow wants to secure to help its offensive on nearby Bakhmut. The head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had accused Russia’s military establishment of trying to ‘steal victory’ in Soledar. Ethiopia’s Tigrayan rebels start handing over heavy weapons

Tigrayan rebels have begun handing in their heavy weapons, a key part of an agreement signed more than two months ago to end a gruelling conflict in northern Ethiopia, a spokesman for the rebel authorities said. The handover in the town of Agulae, about 30km (18 miles) northeast of the regional capital Mekelle, was overseen by a monitoring team comprising members of the two sides and a regional body, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). UN report: Ozone layer slowly healing, set to mend within decades

Earth’s protective ozone layer is healing at a pace that will fully mend the hole over Antarctica in about 43 years, a United Nations report has found. The scientific assessment conducted every four years found a recovery in progress, more than 35 years after every nation in the world agreed to stop producing chemicals that deplete the ozone layer in the Earth’s atmosphere. The layer shields the planet from harmful radiation linked to skin cancer, cataracts and crop damage.
