Titanosaur: World’s biggest-ever dinosaur goes on display in London

Egypt uncovers 250 coffins with mummies, statues found in Saqqara

Archaeologists in Egypt have unveiled another massive haul of priceless artefacts. They were found in the Saqqara Necropolis – a site near Cairo, where many ancient treasures have been discovered. The artifacts include statues of the gods Anubis, Amun, Min, Osiris, Isis, Nefertum, Bastet, and Hathor along with a headless statue of the architect Imhotep, who built the Saqqara pyramid. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said that the 250 coffins, 150 bronze statues, and other objects dated to the Late Period, about 500 BC. Textile hub Bangladesh revives muslin, the forgotten elite fabric

With wooden spinning wheels and hand-drawn looms, Bangladesh is painstakingly resurrecting a fabric once worn by Mughal emperors, Marie Antoinette and Jane Austen, but long thought forever lost to history. Dhaka muslin was stitched from threads so fine that popular folklore in European parlours held that a change in the light or a sudden rain shower would render its wearer apparently naked. The quest to bring back Bangladeshi muslin began with a painstaking five-year search for the specific flower used to weave the fabric, which only grows near the capital, Dhaka. Iraq marks return of looted Gilgamesh Tablet from the US

A small clay tablet dating back 3,500 years and bearing a portion of the Epic of Gilgamesh, that was looted from an Iraqi museum 30 years ago and recently recovered from the United States, has been formally returned to Iraq. The $1.7m cuneiform tablet, known as the Gilgamesh Dream Tablet, is one of the world’s oldest surviving works of literature and one of the oldest religious texts. The Nobel prize for literature has been awarded to the Tanzanian-born novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah. His work focuses on colonialism and the fate of refugees. It is the first time in 35 years that a Black African has won the prize, and comes as the Swedish Academy tries to avoid charges of Western bias. Egypt puts on a show as it moves royal mummies to new home

Royal ancient mummies have been transported through Egypt’s capital of Cairo to their new home, in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
