Burkina Faso army deposes president Kabore in military coup

Burkina Faso’s army has announced it has deposed President Roch Kabore, dissolved the government and the national assembly, and suspended the constitution, seizing control of the country after two days of unrest at army camps in the capital. The announcement, signed on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba and read by another officer on state television, said the takeover had been carried out without violence and those detained were in a secure location. Malians rally after army calls for protests over ECOWAS sanctions

Thousands of people have heeded calls by Mali’s military rulers for a nationwide protest against sanctions by the West African economic bloc, ECOWAS. The sanctions were imposed after the country’s military coup leader delayed elections – due next month – until 2025. Erdogan seeks to boost ties at Turkey-Africa summit

Turkey has hosted the heads of state from 16 African countries along with more than 102 ministers and representatives of the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for an economic summit aimed at boosting trade links. Guinea coup makers name army governors, promise ‘unity’ gov’t

Guinea’s coup leaders have replaced regional governors with military officers and released political detainees after they deposed President Alpha Conde on Sunday. Guinea coup leader bars foreign travel for government officials

Guinea’s military rulers have barred government officials from leaving the country. Coup leader Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya summoned cabinet ministers and told them to hand over their passports and official vehicles. The former French Foreign Legion officer led a military unit that removed President Alpha Conde on Sunday. Later, he announced that the constitution was declared invalid and that the country’s borders were closed. Guinea coup: Army detains President Conde, dissolves constitution

Soldiers have detained Guinea’s President Alpha Conde in a coup. On national television, coup leader Mamady Doumbouya the head of the country’s special forces says the borders are closed and the constitution dissolved.
