New Zealand floods forces hundreds to evacuate

Heavy floods in New Zealand have forced hundreds of people to leave their homes. The city of Nelson has been hit the hardest. Kenya food security: Rising temperatures drive food price inflation

Rising temperatures are worsening the global food crises as the prices of wheat and other crops increase exponentially. Crops have not reached full harvest because of the heat and that is affecting farmers’ livelihoods. For Kenyans, severe drought is raising concerns about food security. People in northern Kenya’s Wajir county are waiting for cash payouts from the Kenyan government, to help them cope with rising food prices and a recurring drought. Remnants of US army bases in Greenland pose pollution threat

Algeria wildfire death toll rises as 25 soldiers killed

Algeria’s president has announced that 25 soldiers have been killed saving residents from the wildfires ravaging forests and villages east of the capital, adding to the fire death toll this week in the North African nation. The soldiers died during a rescue operation in the mountainous Kabylie region. The interior minister has suggested arsonists lit the fires, but so far has not provided further details. Greek firefighters battle ‘raging’ forest fire near Athens

A blaze on the island of Evia is one of more than 100 burning across Greece. A wildfire that tore through a forest on the outskirts of the capital, Athens, has now receded – but has destroyed homes and businesses. The capital is now blanketed in a thick layer of smoke, and residents have been told to stay inside to protect themselves from pollution.
