UK sailing its largest warship amid South China Sea tensions

The United Kingdom has moved its largest warship, and a number of other ships, to the South China Sea. London has said it is focusing on the region amid increased Chinese activity in disputed waters. Experts said that China, which has shadowed the British fleet with ships of its own, considers the UK’s Carrier Strike Group’s presence to be unfriendly, but the warships have thus far steered clear of islands claimed by China. Tokyo Olympics committee meets to address continuing problems

Japan is contemplating whether to impose a state of emergency in Tokyo and Osaka as coronavirus infections surge across the country. It comes just three months before the troubled Tokyo Olympics. North Korea carries out suspected ballistic missile launch

North Korea has fired two suspected ballistic missiles, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said on Thursday. The missiles were launched from South Hamgyong Province into the sea off Japan’s eastern coast. The US Pacific Command says this shows Pyongyang is a threat to its neighbours. Japan’s Hayabusa2 delivers rock samples from asteroid Ryugu

Japan’s space agency says its capsule carrying samples from an asteroid has landed in Australia. The mission began with the launch of the Hayabusa2 spacecraft six years ago. Scientists hope the material from the rock called Ryugu could provide clues to the origin of the solar system and how life on our planet started. Turkish MNG: Ghosn used our jets illegally to escape from Japan

A lawyer for former Nissan boss, Carlos Ghosn, says he feels betrayed by the Japanese justice system. Ghosn fled Japan this week, claiming he was avoiding political persecution, over allegations of financial misconduct.
