Lebanon riots: Security forces wound protesters with live fire

0 Hundreds of protesters have clashed with security forces in Lebanon for a third day, angry about a nationwide lockdown that has left them unable to cope financially. Police in the northern city of Tripoli used tear gas and water cannon to beat back protesters who are demanding the government do more to fix the dire economy. Protesters say they are hungry, unable to cope with third week of coronavirus curbs. Iraq devalues currency by a fifth, the most since 2003

0 Iraq’s government recently devalued the local currency – the Iraqi dinar – by more than 20 percent. It is the biggest currency devaluation against the dollar since the 2003 fall of Saddam Hussein. Tigray conflict highlights border dispute between Ethiopia, Sudan

Sudan says it has played an important role in helping refugees from Ethiopia despite its own economic difficulties. But this crisis is not the only challenge posed by the conflict. The al-Fashaga triangle, where most of the refugees are being hosted, covers an area of about 250 square kilometres and it has around 600,000 acres of fertile land. Top Iranian nuclear scientist assassinated near Tehran

Iran’s president has accused Israel of assassinating its prominent nuclear scientist. Hassan Rouhani says the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh will not slow down Tehran’s nuclear programme. Gunmen ambushed a vehicle carrying him and his bodyguards, near the capital on Friday. Iran has promised retaliation, for what the president calls an act of despair by the enemy. Fakhrizadeh later died in hospital.
