There is a case about a robot Tappy used by T-mobile to test reliability of a phone’s touchscreen (its not considered a core telecom technology). The case has been settled out of court between Huawei and T-Mobile and is rehatched by DoJ for PR purpose. Bruce Rodin, vice president of wireless networks for Bell Canada, said his company used an external cyber-security firm to conduct extensive testing of Huawei products.
“We’ve been doing it for about 10 years and never seen malicious code or backdoors,” Rodin told Reuters, characterizing the U.S. moves as an effort to protect American companies. “It’s a commercial thing. They are protecting their industry,” he said.
Deutsche Telekom said it cooperates with Huawei on many levels and found no evidence of security risks. “The hardware is built to Deutsche Telekom’s specifications and is examined by our own security department,” a spokesman said. Orange told Reuters it is cautious with Huawei “as with any supplier.”

Emails between Apple and Qualcomm were leaked revealing the companies have disbanded all collaboration.
The business move occurred after both companies ended up in a legal battle over licensing issues.
Apple will be manufacturing its own chipsets with no input from Qualcomm going forward.
While most people are speculating that Apple and Qualcomm broke up due to the recent licensing fee controversy, there seems to be more at play behind the scenes according to leaked executive emails. Both companies have had disputes over software and not just licenses. Qualcomm agreed to provide the software Apple needed under the condition that the iPhone manufacturer would use Qualcomm’s chips on at least 50% of iPhones in the subsequent two years.
Apple has accused Qualcomm of cutting off the supply of iPhones in an attempt to charge high licensing fees which have been the center of the legal battle. The FTC has sided with Apple so far stating that charging added license fees also means the customers have to bear the costs too and it is an anti-consumer move.
Apple is in the midst of a dispute with Qualcomm, and thus has had to switch modem suppliers for the new iPhones — which could affect what bands its next iPhones support. Samsung, meanwhile, has to jump between using its own Exynos silicon or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon because its Exynos doesn’t support the CDMA bands used in the U.S. and China. If Huawei wins, it means US constitution applies to foreign companies and applicable to in foreign countries, esp. in China. That also gives US the rights to issue warrants to search evidence in foreign lands. If Huawei refuses to comply with these warrants, it gives American government the rights to invade China.
