Kyrgyzstan’s president is promising compensation for families whose homes were destroyed in fighting along its disputed border with Tajikistan.
More than 50 people were killed and 60,000 forced to leave.
Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford went to Ak—Sai in southern Kyrgyzstan to see what’s left behind.

Whilst they fight, Nato and USA getting ready for “peace keeping” mission 🤷♂️
Russia ready to invade like the Ukraine
China’s invasion of Hong Kong.. and now maybe Taiwan.
Freedom of speech, food and water, shelter, education, sexuality, religion
Why now this conflict???
Unity is required
😱😱😱
Shame to see what is happening to this two countries wish peace will come soon best regards from afghan neighbours
@Sam Ling I know but what can we do. But only hope for peace
@Sam Ling I believe Americans are the one who sponser and train Taliban
@Abass Abass Does it matter who trains? I’m just saying fact that taliban will attack the civilian govt as soon as USA leaves
@Sam Ling You are right I agree with u but where is Taliban getting this weopons and money from? It not USA and ISRAEL
@Abass Abass Who cares where they get the weapons from. Afghanistan civilian and govt gonna be in war soon. If you can do something against USA and Israel go do it then. I’m just stating a fact that the Taliban gonna attack. You’re very bent on pushing your anti US and anti Israel propoganda. Do you work for the Taliban perhaps?
Great people and great nations. <3 from Ukraine.
@mchertonok Why u mad bro
@Ebony Maw I’m not mad. I just think that Ukraine has enough problems not to get into other people problems.
@mchertonok he or she was just greeting tajiks and kyrgyz and showing love to them
Many in Scandinavia supports Ukraine in their sovereignty, and fight against the oppression from russian leaders..
Freedom for Ukraine, freedom for Belarus and freedom from Putin for the russian people.
This situation is all because of Soviet and their failed ideology..
And then later, the failure to recognize the wrongdoings and start the progression process, to the better of the people and the relationship between nations
@Morten frost Hansen Check your stokholm, rape capital, then talk about other’s failures
For some reason brothers from the same mother fight each other but when you see it happening in a great number of brothers we are all against it
Their not realy brothers
Tajikistan is iranic and kyrgyzstan is turkic
@RIDHWAN SAMEJA ADAM : AM I A JOKE TO YOU
You mean mother Russia?
Tajik army aggression was baked by kremlin deputes , the same day the clashes began Russian Defence minister wad with official visit in Dushanbe
WEIRD BORDERS
Blame Stalin and how he carved up Central Asia. He did so on purpose because he knew it was going to cause ethnic tensions and problems. It is a clsssic divide and conquer tactics of the imperial powers.
@Sogdianus agreed…same to what happened in countries conquered by Brits like India/Bangladesh/China borders
Shame on those muslim who are fighting each other for thiers race…..
While the war in Afghanistan has ended, a new one in Central Asia has begun 🙁
The war in Afghanistan hasn’t ended. The US is just leaving. The Afghan government and Taliban will still fight even after the US leaves.
@Ben A. I mean the forgien war is over. Afghanistan has been in civil war since the 90s so nothing new.
@G I R I seen worse A French person blamed the Rise of the German Reich on America.
@Kodak Fiesta then will you accept Indians are superior and ancient people with world’s oldest civilization?
@Kodak Fiesta Afghanistan has more Buddhist heritage than Zoroastrianism world largest Buddha statue was in bamyan, Afghanistan which is destroyed by afghan nationalist Talibans.
Also ancient cities like Kandahar(Gandhara) was the center of Hindu Vedic civilization.
Is there the difference between Tajikistan and the Chinese Tajik nation ?
Our Chinese Tajik people look more like the Iranian But Tajikistan looks like Turkic
@Japan Tarzan Actually Tajiks are not Turkic genetically, yes over the thousand years of mixing with Turkic people they do have Turkic DNA but that go up to 15% for the average Tajik whilst the rest is still very much Iranian. Please look into Tajiks DNA before spouting such nonsense. Uzbeks have also been mixing with the setlled Tajiks for hundreds of years also and that is the reason why Kyrgyz refer to both Tajiks and Uzbeks as “Sart” in Kyrgyzstan.
@Sogdianus No, Man You are mistaken. Tajiks are Real persians. They are descendants of Sogdians and scyhtians. However , modern persians from iran have highly semitic , arab genes. Modern persians Share 17% Proto iranic genes with ancient iranic people but Modern tajiks have much more
@Barış Demir Yes Tajiks have more ancient Iranian DNA than Iranians from Iran but they also have East Asian DNA.
@Sogdianus Modern persians have an avarage of 70.6 ancient iran indians which are originial people of iran geography. Probably they are semitic like Akkadians, babylonians and 17.6 Proto iranic genes which represents Aryan people
one difference is that one group is subject to being thrown into reeducation camps and their children put into state nurseries at any moment, while the other group lives poor but free in their own nation.
What a shame fighting same Brothers
@debashir kyrgz are mongols
@Kodak Fiesta kyrgyz is ancient turkic nation that came with Genghis khans army and end up here, tajiks are persians.
@Kodak Fiesta you are dumb, then turks are arabs persians. Mongols Chinese.
@Kodak Fiesta
There is no point in fighting on races.
Go and focus on self development rather than wasting your time here
@AnZi Mongols and Persons are more correctable?!
Shame on both countries for distroying each other property
The conflict took place on Kyrgyz territory, far away from the actual disputed area. Additionally, pictures of burned homes and cars are of Kyrgyz citizens. I doubt that Aljazeera can even enter Tajikistan, since their government is very corrupt and intransparent and doesn’t allow foreign journalists enter their territories.
I guess they can’t blame the Brits or the French for this. USSR is gone for 30+ years now. Stop blaming others for your problem.
We blame only the third parties!
I am from Kyrgyzstan, wanna say that this conflict on border used to happen unfortunately and was ending up maximum with stone throughing from both civilians.
But in this case very obvious that Tajik army with the “permission” of Putin used the heavy forces instead of having peaceful dialog in more constructive way.
They killed much civilians and we don’t know the real numbers else then officially said. There are a lot of evidence that Tajik army was preparing this operation weeks ahead …
I agree. There’s funny “business” going on between the Russian bear and a few Persian cats.
@Richard Schiffman Russia and Iran was fighting for control in Syria; a proxy war maybe?
PUTIN IS TO BLAME! IT wasn’t tajik army actually but russian green men
Good to see this
Support Kyrgzistan from pakistan
pakistan also support trrorism
@gholam Yousefi Your country is terroris
No one wants to be seen in public with Pakistan.
@ali mo Central Asia is not important in world politics. You were important during the days of Timur the Lame, Babur, and Khwarazmian Empire. In the contemporary world, no one in this Planet knows that your lands even exist EXCEPT Borat who made Kazakhstan known on the world map
@Japan Tarzan They hidden the lands because they don’t want people to know that it was the homeland of the Turkish Khazarians or those who call themselves “Jews”; Turkestan is located in Kazakhstan.
Ussr……………
If they chose to fight each other, after a few years of killing each other they will stop and ask themselves what have we achieved and always, its absolutely nothing! You may win and change the line on the map, but your children are still going to be dead! Nothing is worth more than peace and unity. Nothing.
Well you win the resources that will feed your children. No one is fighting over empty land with nothing.
@🤝 And those resources can’t be shared? They can’t just sit down and make concessions that avoid war? The bottomline is half way into every war, the people always regret it, no matter what they used to justify it.
@Ano they usually share when someone win the war and the loser gotta make a huge concession.
Asia nd africa still burning🤔
Joseph Stalin is still killing people even though he has been dead for so long, decisions have far reaching consequences.
Misunderstanding ex Soviet brothers, peace will come
U Russian?
No, my relatives are from southern European Mediterranean area
True.. I agree..
Soviet regime is to blame.. Putin and his resentment towards reconciliation, is a major part. Because then he stands to loose out, on lots of money to his oligarch friends..
He and the russian state owes great liability, and should, as the germans still are doing for WW2, pay contribution money and provide resources to the abandoned countries of Soviet..
Instead he is now attempting to glorify the history of Stalin and the Soviet union.
Lately he has visited his old KGB boss, and are praised by russian media…!?
Total insanity.
Like someone joked about in this commentary section..
There should be urinals with Stalin’s face on it
@Morten frost Hansen Yeah, always Putin is to blame
Welcome to 2022 መልካም ጦርነት
The conflict is already over
Stop fighting brothers! 2 is 1 and 1 is none.
Both Muslim country should solve issues with peaceful prossess
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂👌
Not sure if I believe religion and religious beliefs are the answer..
But war and suffering are definitely not the answer. It only brings a peaceful society further away..
Food and water, freedom of speech, shelter/houses is essential human rights.
And should be a option for everyone and not a struggle to have or justify fight against others.
Bit on the other hand.. freedom to choose religion is also important.
As long as it doesn’t impose the subversion of the former mentioned rights.
Like f.ex the Taliban and ISIS ideology proclaims..
That is no better than what the Soviet regime, ruled and oppressed this region under
The consequence of the collapse of USSR…its the worst decision in 1991
Ask Mr Gorby and Mr Yesltin
It was a good decision I think. P.s.i was born in USSR, but after reading all history started not like the beginning and ending
So No country is without dispute with its neighbours?
So true
I think USA is in a good position because even there are disputes none of it’s neighbours can realistically contest.
Greenland, Luxembourg and Swizerland etc
Russia comes in and annexes both nations. Problem solved.
WHERE IS PEACE COUNTRY’S AND PEACE WORLD AND PEACE UN
Maybe trying to solve the other 100 conflicts.
Blame USSR
@Nika Kupa no BLAME RUSSIA FOR THIS 🖕🇷🇺😠😡🤬
@Yzdjan Ali did I say Russia lol?
Beautiful place but such a dodgy place to visit I think😂
Very safe for other people
Stupid
show respect to each other
Pakistan did it.
Ali mo@ Ashraf Ghani and Modi did it.
Lol, you are crazy
I think you are crazy
Conflict finds its way on every nook and cranny of the world.
Not my home, for hundreds of miles around and for over 200 years there has been peace.
War, War, war
🇮🇷🤝🇹🇯 we shall support our persian brothers over there
@primus interpares whatever you say pathan
@Sogdianus who is pathan no one say pathan that is indian word we are called Pashtuns/Afghans
@Kodak Fiesta there are Pashtuns and then there are Pathan Indians
@Sogdianus nobody say pathan that is word made by british when they were ruling India, those Pathan are not Pashtun(Afghan) they are Indian only our Afghan forefathers conquered and ruled India thousand years which is why some people inherit our language and culture and one of there ancestors came from Afghanistan but then they mixed and assimilated with local punjabi and lost their culture and language therefore they are not Afghan or Pashtun
@Kodak Fiesta don’t give me a lecture on history bacha baaz, I was referring to the ones in Pakistan anyway. Not the fake ones in India. The ones in Pakistan also call themselves Pathans, and have been mixing with Punjabis for hundreds of year. Just like your calling us Chinese the same can be applied to you Pathans who have high Indian DNA, that makes you a dhall khor. The Pashtuns in Afghanistan also have Indian DNA but not as high as you Pathans.
Underlying condition: Population pressure on limited resources.
Effects of the Soviet union
And what China is doing.
Trading and gaining terrain with some good iniciatives and some bad like all the big boys with an agenda.
Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
And?
Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tatarstan, Dagestan…
Tajikistan and krgystan unite please USA already pulling out of the middle east.
Look at google maps and then inform me if this is in the middle east, but just first look at a globe.
No war tow Both country 🙏🙏
The countries are already struggling financially, this benefits no one
Bizarre🤯. It can’t be just water they’re fighting for, or is it? I’ve been paying close attention to all the news headlines. There seems to be more than just this. If anyone has more information please let me know. I’m just very intrested in the behaviors of “Man”. Thanks again for the video 🤘🍄🍄🍄
@adammiller I am from Kyrgyzstan, and what’s going on is clearly game of big countrie’s interests. Tajik president would never do this without permission of Putin. There are lots of evidence how their army was preparing for this weeks ahead, they evacuated their bordering civilians women and children, they armed civilians men and gave an order to attack. Instead they could just have a dialogue in higher level. But they preferred to attack with no warning at all.
@meri irem Isnt that the same way Russia annexed Crimea back in 2014? And thank you so very much. 🤘🍄🍄🍄 And may God be with you and you loved ones🙏
Russia. It’s a rogue state, and their alliance with China is very shallow.
I can’t say anything clearly about Crimea, it Is better to ask from locals of that area. Surely they know what was the game. But lots of Ukrainian hated Russia for that action. Russia tried to show it as if Crimeans joined by their will. I remember there was kind of a voting. In my opinion it happened coz of passive Ukranians society behaviour . Majority didn’t or couldn’t stand against this events. So it became precedent somehow…
You are correct. It is not just water. The borders of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan were not clearly marked since the collapse of the USSR. There are many Kyrgyz people claiming that the Tajiks wanted to control the river to “transport drugs”. First off, the river is so shallow and narrow that a boat simply won’t fit and would get stuck. It is only suitable for canoeing or kayaking, which is a very inefficient means of transporting “drugs”. Secondly, the exclave was never an exclave to begin with, it became one over the last 30 years. My sister’s husband was born and raised in that “exclave” and there is way too much interference from the Kyrgyz police and soldiers in the lives of Tajik civilians. From the events leading to BLM movement, we know how guns and power influence people’s ego, thus leading to its abuse. This is exactly how it was until recently; if you keep blowing a balloon, it’ll eventually pop. The last trigger was the announcement made by the Kyrgyz president, Sadyr Zharapov, to exchange the exclave for the same size land near the border. This worried the residents of the exclave because he is known for his nationalistic views and his anti-Uzbek and anti-Tajik political agenda. Soon following the announcement (it was made without any input from the Tajik side), the army training with tanks, artillery and 2000 soldiers was held in Batken, the province adjacent to the exclave. This really worried the residents and Tajikistan as a whole, which as expected, led to preparation for the worst case scenario. This was because in 2010, in the city of Osh, which was close to an exclave belonging to Uzbekistan, there was a genocide of ethnic Uzbeks. Thousands of people killed, raped and the refugees weren’t allowed to cross to Uzbekistan by the Kyrgyz military. We feared that the history was repeating itself 10 years on (there is an article written by the Human Rights Watch, which includes all the details of the atrocities of those events. A very insightful read). I’m a scientist and I believe in statistics looking for patterns and outliers. Following the shootings at the border, 20000 Kyrgyz civilians were resettled, which is a massive number of people to be displaced in couple hours. This just doesn’t fit the logic that such a large number of people were moved within a matter of hours, many on foot, involving children. Plus, according to their media, the roads were “seized and blocked” by the Tajik army. How did they get through? It seems an astonishing feat without prior preparations. At least 70% of them must have been resettled before the conflict.
My personal speculation (please take it with a grain of salt 😊) is that their newly elected president wanted a scapegoat to bring together the Kyrgyz people since there has been a lot chaos internally. The previous president was overthrown and almost assassinated. While the media was busy covering the conflict, he made amendments to the constitution to be elected for two terms, granting himself powers to appoint judges and high ranking officials in the executive branch, thus limiting parliamentary powers. Essentially, safeguarding himself against the fate of his predecessors. After the conflict, the majority (80% of the population, if I remember correctly) approved of these amendments. This is some powerful use of psychology to sway the public opinion. As for the Tajik side, going to war would only hurt the Tajiks because we are stranded inside their territory, not the other way around. There is a single road connecting mainland Tajikistan to the exclave, which is controlled by Kyrgyzstan. That road is literally the “road of life” and if that is closed, the exclave residents would die of hunger. And Tajik people are not about to risk that by playing war. Taking over the Kyrgyz lands is pretty much pointless for us because we have to give them back. There are treaties and laws preventing that.
As I said before, these are my opinions on the situation and I am Tajik, so my opinions might be slightly biased. If you want an objective view of the conflict, please read articles written by a neutral third party because everyone would claim that their truth is THE truth. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk 😅

Yet another white english reporter this channel employs.
Why does AJE employ so many english men??
because English people are the culture of reporters and the most common demographic who WANTS the job.
Because you didn’t apply maybe?
because they were well trained to think critically in their education systems and wanted a low paying job with travel around the globe. Not such a huge demographic.
Now covid can conquer and win this war
Its here somewhere in these mountains of Kyrghystan where the dam that blocks Gog and Magog is locared

Stop Fighting 2 Brothers country
Meanwhile the mastermind (Stalin) is laughing in his grave.
@old gods hahaha.. that is such a great idea..
Have you seen my thread, about how Putin is attempting to rewrite history…?
Tries to glorify the past and denounce the actions of the Soviet regime.
He is ridiculed by historians worldwide for his attempts..
But how does the russian misinformed people receiving it..?
That is the interesting thing..
He recently paid tribute to his former KGB boss, and is praised for it, by russian media. That place is so crazy, and I feel sorry for the russian people, who otherwise have so much unreleased potential and deserve their possibilities assured
@NM Solutions while I don’t condone the actions of Islamic facism..
The claims of Soviet union stabilizing this region and providing for them, is a straight up lie and fabrication of the Soviet regime..
They looted the resources and oppressed the people.. especially the ethnic minorities.
Funny when Stalin is Georgian born.
He is, was, and will forever be, a brown stain on the world’s history
Edit*-
Only resources being provided to these regions, was factories to be manned by slave labourers. Houses for the KGB officers and roads to transport the ill-gotten goods back to Moscow..
You didn’t have many options, when all food and essentials for living, was either taken away, or withheld and only given to keep people from dying too fast..
Stalin would have murdered Boris Yeltsin if he got the chance. Do you think he would have allowed the 1991 coup to happen? Say what you want about him but he was one of the greatest patriots of Russia.
@anirban bhattacharya patriot?
He was a paranoid ludacris mass murderer..!!
Putin is trying to rewrite history. He loved his position in KGB..
That’s why he’s pushing propaganda to defame Yeltsin.
All the communists leaders were equally bad leaders. But none more murderous, then Stalin
@Morten frost Hansen defame Yeltsin?😂😂😂 Sure , the fame built up by the west
Human need water, please share it with each other. Think humanity first.
🙄
those three nations should unite.
Bless these two nations Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 and Tajikistan 🇹🇯❤️❤️
@Taylor Benicio Yup, I have been using Flixzone for months myself 🙂
I hope the fighting stops soon I don’t want the west or china to get involved
Tajikistan army use heavy weapons and killed our innocent childs and elderly. Midnight tajikistan army inter to kyrgyz territory attacked peaceful civilians. Kyrgyz civilian mans protected womens and child with stones bcs non of us have weapons. Thanks to our president Sadyr Japarov we didn’t attack back them with our army, our president don’t want any innocent people suffered bcs of tajikistan government. Our president is new only 6 month he started his work with druktrafick, he blocked all druk ways bcs tajikistan always use our road for sent over they druk to Europe Russia now they cannot sent thats why tajik government make this war. Everybody knows most tajik government ppl doing druk business too.
Thanks Stalin.
And people were saying 2020 was bad. 🤦♂️
Why do you only see one side? in general, there is a lot of provocation and false information, the Kyrgyz have enough poster in front of everyone, you disgrace yourself, Tajiks do not want war, but they must protect themselves and their family from you, stop telling everyone false information,
Another ex soviet countries fight each other.. why they cannot be like British commonwealth countries, be good, be prosperous and they even have Commonwealth Games every 4 years.
Do you recommend to conquer it, populate it and then declare independence?
Its very unfortunate that to take part the senior politician for killing this innocent human being
Don’t fight with each other otherwise china will occupy both of the nations and the citizens of free Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be struggling like uighur from china
Is Russia and China planning a new communist world power?
The actions and rhetoric is really worrying..
Meanwhile the Taliban and ISIS are perhaps plotting Islamic facism, with alleged support from Iran and Saudi Arabia..
And India’s strength is weakening, thanks to the lack of government resolute in medical infrastructure and information..
Not that life in India is up to democratic standards for everyone, but it’s damm sure better than in China and Russia
Troubled times indeed. I’m definitely afraid of a major war looming..
We, the people need to show, that love and tolerance is a thing we hold deep to our hearts
There’s any diference beetween these countries ? Arent they culturally and religious the same thing ?
one Indo-Ariyan, one Turkic. Both are completely different ethnic tribes with different language families and cultures. Think of Persian/Afghan vs Mongolian
Yes, Tajikistan is a Persian speaking country. Kyrgyzstan is a Turkic speaking nation. Culturally, we are similar when it comes traditions that have been established during Soviet Union, but other than that completely different. Religious is the same for the majority of the population-Islam. Genetically, Kyrgyz people are descendants of tribes originating in Altay regions of Siberia and Mongolians, thus look Asiatic. While Tajiks descended from eastern Iranian tribes, thus look more west Asian/Caucasian. I hope it answered your question 😊
🇮🇷🇹🇯🇮🇷🇹🇯🇮🇷
Water is like the new gold as it gets more harder to access there’s going to be more of this around the world
Water wars
RAHMONSTER!
Tajikistan dictator is KILLER
The drew those lines like that on purpose. Stalin knew conflicts will start and Moscovia will come in to ”save” peace.
Can they not share .. astaghfirrullah .. in the month of Ramadan they fight over water .. have some shame all of you
If these nations are smart enough should learn what happened to Afghanistan
As with many countries in the region..
Soviet union and their actions are drawing shadows, even to this day.
If Putin was any decent human and cares about humanity.. he would have denounced and condemned the Soviet history. And work towards reconciliation..
But nope… he is trying to rewrite history, and glorify the actions of Stalin and the regime
Why are armies involved ?
Because it happened at the border of two nations, maintained by the national guards.
Dont worry. If necessary, Türkiye will support Kırgızistan Turkic Brothers. Like a karabag in Azerbaijan.
Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan are not turkic
@Kodak Fiesta no Turkey is not Turkic. Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Türkmenistan, Özbekistan, baskurdustan, cuvasistan, Azerbaijan, South Azerbaijan, Tataristan, Yakuthistan, Altay, Gagauz, all of them are Turkic.
@Ufuk Gumussoy only Turkmenistan Uzbekistan Tajikistan are originally turkic, tatar, kyrgyz, kazakh and azeri are not turkic
@Kodak FiestaTajikistan is a persian. You dont know Turkic nation.
Kyrgyzs are not Turk they are Mongolian origin
this why bald n bakrupt dont go there
The place is so beautiful 👍🏼👍🏼
50 people dead?
That’s not a war. That’s a tiny skirmish.
Come on b mature boht of you are muslim countries don’t grab each other necks… Work for batter livelihood instead of destroying livelihood
Kyrgyzstan go
Great report. It is amazing how little coverage Central Asia usually attracts. I remember the Tajik civil War in the early 1990s got absolutely no media attention at all.
“brothers killing brothers…” sad
We are people of Kyrgyzstan ,we’ve been trying to establish true democracy since Soviet union fall,But our whole neighbours are just bunch of Dictators,Rahmon-president of tajikistan forced his own people to attack our land because they lost their own and pays debt to china
🇹🇯🤝🇰🇬
please before judging look at both side of the coin !!! the shooting didn’t start by Tajik solders but by Kyrgyz solders and they were preparing for months near the borders… Al Jazeera is showing its real face shame on you Al Jazeera !!!
Emomali Rahmon is the slave of Putin.
May the God of war bless them
This is kyrgiz military vehicle which was seen on another video shooting at Tajik side
This mess was created by kyrgiz government they can’t live in peace with their neighbors
In 2010 kyrgiz population with the assistance of their military killed Uzbek population and forced them to run to the Uzbek border
This time Tajiks taught them real lesson
Are there any two neighboring countries on this earth….. that are not fighting……🙄
Such nice nature there, I can almost feel it. Miss it a lot

Great Analyse khonum Chehrona😁👌🏻
Another thing that Putin, subverts and denounces as any wrongdoing, of the Soviet regime..
There are some serious issues about, the Russian government’s attempts to glorify the Soviet regime.
Lately he has rewritten russian/soviet history, as not being part, of the outbreak of WW2.
Labeling Poland, and the Nazis, as the main contributors…
Total insanity

Religion of Peace VS Religion of Peace 😂
Islam has 72 branch. All of them is in war. You can’t put 72 branch at once. And also I’m pretty sure your religion aren’t peaceful, bcz ur creating a conflict in this comments section. And plus islam hate isis and al qaeda
And also only 1 branch is the true islam tho. So if u want to use isis as an excuse for the war, then ur an idiot
