At least 70 people have died and more than 1,200 people have been arrested after days of riots and looting across South Africa.
Protests began after former President Jacob Zuma turned himself in on July 7 to police to serve a jail term for contempt of court.
South Africa has been under a COVID-19 lockdown for more than a year and the demonstrations have expanded to include concerns about increasing poverty and inequality.

No, it’s wrong to loot and destroy properties, but it’s also wrong to see your neighbor starve for months and your simply walk by because you have a job. So sad. Most, if not all, of these shops have well to do owners, and they are insured. They will live. Don’t miss the point by thinking small. This is bigger then looting. It’s bigger than Zuma. survival of the fittest has a way of balancing things, when few are clever enough to hold most of the resources for themselves while mocking the majority for being lazy,dumb lads for having to live in poverty, the equilibrium ends and these things appear, most days fewer people win while on few days like these they are unable to control those lazy dumb looters. the only way to prevent these days it teach people how to earn a living by honest ways, but I don’t see any school or college doing that, not even in developed countries, there’s no class, either theoretical or practical, that exposes children to actual way of making money by what they learn, majority are bound to stay poor as the only way to get rich is by being clever enough to make others work for you. the biggest hurdle these days is there’s no guarantee of getting a job even if you got the highest score, only few are able to win the job, rest loses and forced to do whatever they can to survive.

This is very sad to see this as there was much hope that when Mandela became president in ’94 South Africa would develop into a prosperous democracy and become an example for the rest of Africa. Unfortunately, since Mandela the country has been run into the ground by corrupt politicians only interested in lining their own pockets. I don’t see this ending well and the result could be another Zimbabwe.
