Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has been declared the winner of last week’s presidential election, defeating incumbent Edgar Lungu.
The tycoon successfully campaigned on his business experience, promising to turn the struggling economy around.
The significant win sparked celebrations on the streets after an election marred by sporadic violence.

At least now they have an economist as a President. Maybe things will get better for the Country, unlike the previous President who was a so called lawyer. I think Countries need people with economics background in order to run for Presidency. I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong
Don’t believe that this is enough yardstick to measure ones output in office considering that we’ve had various economists at the helms of affairs at various including reknowned industrialist and businessmen in various African countries yet nothing different has ever been done.
But let’s hope we will get it right this time around.
I want this to happen in Namibia please
Congratulation to the Zambian people. We look forward for Ugandan to overturn the dictator M7 out of power very soon.
wont happen in Uganda trust me son, M7 owns Uganda as long as he is breathing -only death will remove him from power.
Wish you all the best!
We will stand by you our brothers and always remember nothing lasts forever. Thanks by the way
We stand by you our brothers and sisters in Uganda
You ca do it Uganda 🇺🇬 Zambia has your back 🙏🏾
Our president has a lot to clean up and and straighten, Hakainde Hichilema has come excellently on time as answer for the country ‘s ravaged economy.🇿🇲
@Red_spy007 You might want to do some research about the countries you make such comments about before you make such statements. Granted many African leaders and politicians leave much to be desired in their practices during their tenors but if you knew even a little bit about the background of Zambia’s president elect Hakainde Hichilema you would have resisted from making this comment. I have deliberately put his name here so to allow you to at least do a quick Google search at the very least.
@Red_spy007 bold statement coming from someone who is not a Zambian. We’ve had noble presidents in the past who were not thieves, unlike most countries. Edgar was of course an exception. HH is not a thief. Then again, your opinion is yours.
@L K you better read to understand first, before starting an argument. i said, elections will not change your situation and you cannot wish it away by changing presidents. after all, i have wished you well and allowed the benefit of doubt! remember this after 3 or 4 years and see if you still hold your present optimism
@Bozi Chirandu Zambia and Malawi are two different countries. Unlike other countries Zambian people are rising up and are choosing to hold the leaders accountable. We are no longer going to tolerate useless leaders that’s why majority of the youths voted this time around with over 90% of turnout in some cities were youths. When push comes to shove we Zambians are very united.
@Bozi Chirandu HH now it’s time now to arrest Edgar Lungu for sacking Zambian blood for Chinese interests
Good luck Zambians….peace to you, but know every media , even if they sound “ Sympathetic “. Know their origin, ownerships and coverage, Though some are good, but only some,
Must get our fair share of revenue from the copper and all other minerals sales.
Which must be pumped into agriculture.
Agricultural and all things agricultural run in the veins of His Excellence.
He is the one man of whom it can truly be said that he is “the son of the soil ” without any ambiguity. A commercial farmer,& proud owner of the largest herd of top quality cattle.
We have th potential to become the breadbasket for the region.
Needed a man with soil on his hands and under his nails,
Not with blood on his hands.
Well articulated
Happy for you Zambia
We are proud of our country 👏 Zambia 🇿🇲 and long live to our democracy.
Iwe mwaiche uli konse

Bally will fix it 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲
Soon they will be complaining about him. Every politician is the same
“Every politician is the same” what makes you say so?
Nope! We have a great president Mwanawasa and when he died we were devastated.
One of the very few functional democratic countries in Africa. Hats off to the electoral commission for a free a fair election
На! Last 6 years was BAD. Heat day after the winner was announced, I asked someone on the streets – why are you not wearing Red( colour of opposition), the answer was – We are fearing… ( whom- the fallen ” democratic” President..
I knew HH might win!!!
Zambia Rise!!! AFRICA UNITE!!!
Zambia should cut off diplomatic ties with a certain Jewish supremacist State
Zambians must take back their country from chin.. congratulations!
Exactly 🙏🏾
I hope they do. It’s shameful. They could have opened it up to those in diaspora.
Dislikers are PF supporters 🙄😂
they are pf thugs 😂😂
My uncle has won 😁😁😁😁😁
One thief goes another steps in. This is a other continent that is ruled and governed by Thieves
Too much talk of steeling u forget the development we have been archiving , I bet u don’t even live here
Hakainde Hichilema’s (HH) Curriculum Vitae
I came across HH’s Curriculum Vitae and I am super impressed . This man does have the capacity to lead us to a better Zambia . If you look at his CV , He has no reason to keep campaigning to be president , He is super rich , well connected and has power . Just look at how many companies trust him to sit on their board of Directors . The number of big roles he has held , all requesting his insight on how to run the company . Business wise we are safe because he has majored in Business Administration and Economics meaning he will strengthen this economy . Without political power or a silver spoon this man has managed to climb to great heights . His dedication to Zambia has been withstand the test of time , Imprisonment and the general fear of death from the ruling party . If HH is president , he will do what needs to be done because he has literally blood , sweated and waited for that position . He is ready and we are ready . I don’t hate PF personally but this country is not about which party rules it , its about development and right now Zambia is not developing , we are pedaling backwards . With a new president in Office , Zambians will have the patience to let the new government work and it will have confidence in a better Zambia even when this are bad . I have spoken too much , check out his CV below to see why you can live 10 lifetimes and still not make 30% of his network .

@Yatin Nayee these are losers sitting in the west and could never taste power because their own people oppress them.
Hope the newly Elected president will not be worst than the incumbent president? Because Africans Country always elects a leader who pretends to be sympathetic to be when he/she is not yet elected to be president, but became a wolf to the people when Elected to lead the people….
Well, I don’t think he will be worse than our current outgoing president. If he does than we will vote him out in 2026. The Zambian youths will no longer tolerate useless leaders thats why majority of youths voted this time with the highest numbers in history. Our current president was the WORSE in the history of Zambia. He did more damage to the economy in the last 7 years in office and was pushing the country into a dictatorship by trying to change the constitution of Zambia so that he can stay longer in power. He also promoted tribalism and had so called “thugs” working for him.
it’s not just African countries. you guys look at us like we are stupid yet Biden is the president of America. 🙄 a person with a working brain wouldn’t vote for Biden but yet here we are. so no, it’s not only Africans that make mistakes
@Berthe Kabwe yes. ifwe we fire. I love being Zambian because we actually have a voice. these people are asking all these questions while Biden is their president
Good job people from Zambia but don’t trust this people look at malawi
I think HH is up to the task.
Let’s hope coup doesn’t happen like in Burma
D’you see any signs of a possible coup? Some of you people just like to sow hatred and discord because that’s what you thrive on.
Africa has a brighter future ahead, dictatorship is a dying trend. Thank you Zambia for showing us how elections are suppose to run.
You’re just transitioning to having your dictators being approved by the Chinese.
♥️♥️
I ❤ Africa
China just lost …..
Good Fri 😍👍👍😍
Mr lungu sold everything in Zambia he shd now account for it
Here is an opportunity for investors with businesses that were looted and destroyed in south Africa few weeks ago to move and invest in Zambia peacefully without panicking.
Non south Africans living in south africa should also move to Zambia for better opportunities and leave south Africans in their country as they always want and see how they will manage without others.
My Country Zambia Is A Peaceful Country 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲….
Congratulations Zambia! It is time to have some of the challenges in the economy, employment, manufacturing, and production resolved. President HH and his government should also consider the concept of creating an enabling environment for retraining citizens for current jobs. In addition, they should ensure integrity, accountability and transparency in national investments. One Zambia, One Nation! JC
Moses of Africa his HH out from Evil times.
God bless our land
This country is peaceful 💯 we just need serious investors for we have a serious leader now…
Dont puff when ur bout to do presscon
What she didn’t mention there was that lungu’s claim of elections not been fair was mainly from his side, from limiting the opposition campaign, un warranted detentions to blocking the internet & media coverage, political violence etc..
That’s a lie Edgar Lungu(he is there on record) said he had accepted defeat and will step down peacefully ….. Am a Zambian why are you escalating the situation.
Naba samwa thts why I hope thy are nt going to regret there decision coz pipo with there mouth
you reporters are whack, the international community never documents how the previous regime beat us,jailed us…and even killed us…all u document is the good times….f@*k yall
Iye iwe breathe pls breathe kkkkk
Congratulations Mr President Elect, have a very successful term in Office N Congrtz to the voters
Zambia is not the first country to change president through a peaceful Democratic process. And the speeches & addresses by this president elect, would be the same of all political leaders ( presidents) He will talk of unemployment , creating jobs , fight against corruption, foreign investors , road & infrastructural developments. As if he is the only one to do them all. Forgetting the corrupt & nation wreckers would be his ministers. Politicians are the same everywhere. Well, wish him well in his endeavours & may God be in his side.
My happiest day
Nice one, interesting that the sitting president saying the election was not fair, how funny!! that is not possible in Africa! Normally opposition side is the one complaining!! lol ahahahaha somethings never change!
Goodnews
Oooh thank God you did it guys but here in Uganda 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Democracy is only as good as its people. What use is democracy if the people could barely read, didn’t have enough food to eat and the politicians spewing one populist sentiment after another
Learn from countries like Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Spain or Chile. They focus on stable, strong government to get stuff done and after all the population’s necessities are met then they transitioned to become a democratic country
A bena Zambia nabasosa.BRAVO,!Hichilemba
Democracy is the first developed in a country
Congratulations to HH. You deserve this victory sir. You have tirelessly worked for it. Your commitment and heart to rescue Zambians has been answered. Please sir as you take up this noble task do not forget what eroded the commitment and heart to serve Zambians in your past colleague, Ecl. When Ecl came to power, he portrayed a well-disciplined, humble and down-to-earth leadership qualities, however, money, power and authority overtook him which made him lose direction… The number one cause has been the people surrounding presidency seat….most of them have no fiscal discipline and moral standing. They peddle lies to the president…they bring closer allies to take up key positions to weaken the personal integrity of the leader. They form a concrete block around the president to deny him access to general poplars. The number two cause had been tolerance on corrupt practices… fueling cadrerism…., failure to discipline erring political leaders including ministers, and letting political cadres to take over public institutions like ZESCO, Markets, Streets, Bus Stations, Borders and other strategic revenue points. Political growth depends much on membership, however, some members are not worthy camping with. Attraction of members from a failing political party must be checked. This is a strategy used to take over a new deal party. PF was taken over my MMD and see what happened to it….. Sir, ensure that you monitor closely and personally those migrating from other parties to join you….. many have a strategy to get a key position and then rapidly draw friends and completely dilute your vision. Please take charge and do not just rely on information from people who just aim at saving their jobs but destroying yours. Look at the plight of Government workers…they play a key role in development but they are the most neglected ones…. I felt that saying this would definitely add to the notes many people are displaying. I wish you God’s blessings sir. Thank you.
See you in 2026.. Congratulations Bally
Way to go young Africans
My people now take care of the citizens of the Zambia not the Chinese
It actually feels good to be zambian again. Here is to the future.
Ikr it’s so liberating
Well done HH ,we have been waiting for years for this !!the first thing you should do Mr.Presidemt is putting Lungu in jail for what he has done to Zambia in last several years!!!!
The Zambian youths voted out the dictator Lungu 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾We did it guys!we did it 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲

😅 ☝ Always appreciate Governor Noem’s insights – a tremendous Public Service inspiration. |
This has been planned for a while now. All the cameras and devices going up along all highways are going to be used to track people. If you are hearing talk of mandated shots for interstate travel you can bet that’s exactly what’s going to happen. All the systems of control are already in place and have been for a few years. |
Too bad the citizens of America didn’t have a say in government, that would be awesome. |
Exactly the same push towards Socialism here in Australia and unfortunately a big percentage of the population hasn’t / can’t see what is happening !! |
How can Ted Cruz be allowed to do this? |

What did Biden say during the campaign? Something like “ Trump doesn’t have a plan to deal with Covid, I do, and will end it”? Guess he didn’t really have a “plan” after all? |
So fast they deserve to be in the Guinness book of records! |
Many Americans soldiers give their lifes for Afghanistan and now it’s seems like all in vain. |

Perfect timing the Haitians are going to fly to Mexico and then across the border to the US |
The cities in Afghanistan look similar to US cities that decided to defund the police. Only difference is that the “police” are all leaving Afghanistan at once while the criminals just walk in and cut heads off. |

Nothing says illegitimate more than Biden, you can’t convince me eighty million people voted for this. |
Do none of the bipartisan acts that have ever been passed. Have never been attacked? That was good to pass but it was a very small minority of people in this country. Let’s pass that and deny voter rights. What seems more of an impact on the people of America? Get this forked tongue politician off the air. America’s ancestors were correct. White man speaks with forked tongue |
No one cares about them! THEY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO FIGHT THEMSELVES! |
The Biden administration bit off more than they could chew? As far as Afghanistan and the southern border. |
