One of the world’s most influential Buddhist monks, Thich Nhat Hanh, has died in Vietnam at the age of 95, his Zen teaching organisation said in a statement.

To me “Religion/belief” is personal, it becomes a trouble when a person (presumably civilized) force their belief into others, that’s how FRICTION emerge.

@Jacky Jacky Thanks Jacky. I will like to clarify that Buddhist are discouraged from having beliefs.. instead they have to investigate the truth and valid it for themselves. It is not a religion per say.. but more like a practice to reduce suffering.
When Jesus was alive, he only had a handful of disciples. When he died and make into a propangada machinery by the Roman empire, suddenly he becomes the center of a World Religion. Suudenly, he is the passion of christians.
Had it not for the Propaganda mechinery of the mass controlling Roman Empire, I doubt Christian today will even recognise him when he is around.
Make no mistake, I have deep respect for Jesus. But the machinery of mass control was what made him known to so many.

I know right? Considering that I attended a lot of Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings in the late 80’s and early 90’s for free! Attended his retreats for free. I was a teenager and the Vietnamese Buddhist community had a tradition of free teachings for all. Donate if you’re able but not for poor people and kids. I was one of those kids. Westerners know how to turn anything into a product, including spirituality.

A wonderful teacher. I had the honor of doing a walking meditation with him in 2013. I am a better person because of him. I’ve read most of his books and my favorites are “No Mud, No Lotus” and “The Art of Mindful Living”. Thay, thank you for your compassion and teachings. I love you and your Sangha so much and may you RIP.

Hi Entropic, it is not enough to just read. These whole process out getting out of the reincarnation cycle takes life times of dedication, including meditation, accessing deep insights into the nature of reality and possibly assessing past lives too. Basically, the world and yourself is not what you think it is. Right from the Beginning in timelessness, there is no Dichotomy. If you understand this, then you may be in the process of de-reborning.

To me, Buddhism is still the most structured system of ending the rebirth cycles. I have regain some past live memories as well as experiences before I was reborn into physical body again. There are certain dynamics that caused one to reborn into the physical planes.
To me, to get out of the reincarnation matrix.. requires the deep insight into the nature of reality. When Buddhism, says there is no Self.. it is true. Some will misconstrue as Buddha not understanding the nature of Soul.. The truth is he has gone beyond that understanding. When most people dies, there is still experiencing through remaining bodys including the astral body. IMO, it is the astral body experience that is causing the deceased to encounter other beings within the reincarnation realms. These deceased will eventually be reborn back as beings with physical body most likely humans again. This process goes on and on.
The ‘past memories’ were not lost, there are just not accessible to most due to frequency / vibration constrains imposed on consciousness. The astral body, physical bodys are not really 3D things but processes that constraints and localises experiences into seeing from a ‘body’. In actuality, there is no subject-object split. There is no dichotomy right in the Beginning. It is just layers of processess imposed on ‘sense of existence’.
The stopping of the rebirth cycles starts with the first glimpse into no-self… which is a matured understanding of theno subject-object split. This, IMO, is Stream entry.

Hi Entropic, Buddhism strongly discourages beliefs. Monks are not allowed to display any psychic ability… As for myself, i am a born skeptic..who does not believe anything unless personally experienced. As, i am not a monk in this life..i guess i can say that i did remember past lives as well as consciousness on higher vibrational planes of existence. As for karma, my own experience from tracing my past lives n through directly in the higher realm…my understanding of it is not the same as conventional narratives. Basically, there are encounters in life …they have causes…just not in the standard karma narratives of retribution.

Is it a coincidence that I literally discovered his teachings just before the day he died a couple days ago? What are the chances? I even checked wikipedia, and he was still alive, and I said “Phew, what a great guy, he’s still alive” and now 2 days later…that’s heavy. Rest in peace.
I’ve known him for years. But when i learned he died i wrote in the live stream that his name was very hard to remember. The very next thing i did is to click on a random video among dozens with him and in his first minute of speech he explained what his name means “one action”. I was astounded. It was a direct response to my post.
