Myanmar’s coup leader Min Aung Hlaing has pledged to deal decisively with “terrorists” fighting against his rule as the military put on an annual show of strength for Armed Forces Day. One year since the military coup in Myanmar, calls for international action are growing louder, notably from the National Unity Government (NUG), made up of elected politicians who were thrown out of office by the generals. “The world is doing nothing but just sitting and watching,” NUG Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung told Al Jazeera. Attacks against civilians, protesters and political activists have escalated in recent months. Fighters opposed to the military government seized a police station in the eastern town of Mobye on Sunday. It was set on fire, and at least 13 security personnel were captured or killed. 0 Police and security forces have allowed hundreds of protesters in Myanmar’s biggest city Yangon to leave after they hunkered down in one district in defiance of a weeks-long nightly curfew to protest the military government’s coup. It follows United Nations chief Antonio Guterres’ warning that security forces should show “maximum restraint” in dealing with the protesters. 0 Security forces have opened fire on anti-coup protesters in several cities and towns in Myanmar, killing at least six people and wounding several more, according to reports. Two people were killed in the second biggest city of Mandalay on Wednesday while at least four others were killed in the town of Monywa in the central Sagaing region, witnesses said. A doctor told the AFP news agency one protester was shot in the chest in Mandalay while another, a 19-year-old young woman, was shot in her head.
