In this video, I’ll show you how I have lived on $30 per week.
If you truly want to save money on food, pay close attention to this video as I show you some of my best practices for cooking.
Over time, as my food budget has increased, I have been able to afford organic, healthier foods than what you may see in this video.

A few things to note:
– I am not Gordon Ramsay
– We each have wildly different diets. I would assume that this diet may not work for everyone. I know plenty of people who choose to refrain from eating meat, gluten, carbs, etc.. At the end of the day, I try my best to consume any type of food in moderation. You may read a study today on how a certain food may cause cancer, only to hear the next week that people who eat that specific food live longer.
– As my income has increased, I have chosen to expand my food budget to $50+ per week so that I can choose more sustainable, healthier food options.
– You may have noticed that chicken took up nearly one-third of the expenses in this video. This may be anecdotal, but from my experience, eating less meat can be more cost-effective (and humane). If you choose to forgo meat entirely, make sure you are getting enough protein from other sources.
Nate, you are awesome. You teach people how to live better lives with your wonderful suggestions and tips. Just ignore people who are being rude and mean to you. You are only 21, I think so for your age, you have NO idea how great you are doing. The rest of 21 years old are I bet you NOT conducting your life as you are. More power to you!
man you gotta remake this one in about two or three months to show inflation after all that stimulus…
Please for the love of god use a cutting board! How have you not sliced a finger off?!
Nate is it ok to spend money in a rice cooker? I’m becoming a minimalist and is crazy how much money I’m saving a month is so excited but now I feel like not buying anything just to save the money LMAO is like I want my rice to look nice but I don’t want to spend money in a rice cooker I don’t know what to do ☹️
You look like your trying to seduce the camera, lay off the Mach suave kid
People who think being vegan is expensive haven’t looked at the price of meat and dairy 😂 a bag of beans and rice (which together form a complete protein) is cheaper than that pack of chicken you bought and will last a lot longer and is shelf stable. Vegan diets can be expensive or it can be cheap just like omnivore diets can be expensive or cheap.
But its not as nice as chicken
This is the dumbest title ive ever read in my life!! So stupid!!
Great advice good tips. Only thing i will note on is get a cheap cutting board please, watching you cut your potato over the crock pot was giving me anxiety like no other, 10-15$ saves a hospital trip and maybe a finger or two
Cheap bread cost $3 per loaf. Where in the world are you located? 😳
Carbs are bad is you have diabetes or hypoglycemia or other issues. To much junk will make you sick
Too many carbs will make you blind if you are hypoglycemic. You need protein
This can’t be cali…
Bread is essential for me, not just because I’m french but it’s cheap, easy to eat and great calories i eat sandwich in the morning and at 4pm as a snack, but in France garlic is the most expensive ingredient that i really want to buy but 4 dollars for 2 garlic head man i could buy chiken and get proteins from it but…. Garlic is basic of cooking great food it’s hard to stay on a budget lol
Unfortunately with BIDENflation, this $35 budget will run about $65 or more now. Thank you Biden voters.
Exactly what I was thinking, today everything is overly expensive. Today I spent $20 and I didn’t even bought anything that will last me the entire week
That’s more than 30$$
definitely over 100$ now in today’s economy. It’s cheaper to just eat out now.
Gluten and dairy will make you sick. Bread is so bad for you. Aldi’s is a great place to save money. They have gluten free bread which is really big and taste good. Even their meat is a great price. I buy organic meats and veggies mostly. I definitely can’t live on $30 a week. I have celiacs.
I’m buying food at the dollar store now as this would cost easy over 100$ in the COVID economy.
MY GOD! STOP slicing your food over the pots and pans!
7:08 He could’ve just cracked the eggs into the bagels and the yolk could’ve just sat in the middle. As the eggs cooks and the yolk solidifies, he can diligently take them off the skillet and set whatever toppings onto his freshly made “EGGagels”
Id advise saying “affordable” rather than “cheap”.
Great Value brand stuff dont even cost less than a dollar anymore…
dude just really said walmart is the cheapest wtf
Ah man I’ve bene living off $6 protein bars (each) for the past 2 years. And I’m still small on top of that.
I eat 3 eggs and 3 peices of bacon for breakfast with milk. I have 2 peanutbutter sandwiches and milk for lunch, and ramen with cheap cheese and meat for dinner. With milk.
Edit: for the missing viatamins get a supplement
Edit2: The milk is great. Adds protein, viatamins, fat, lots of calories, and is super cheap.
As a single, older woman, I get a kick out of challenges that let you eat healthy AND cheap. It’s fun to come up with new ideas. The family pack of chicken was smart, then, freeze the chicken breasts, individually. I also buy the family size (3 lbs) of hamburger, when that’s on sale, and divide it up and freeze in 1/2 lb portions in sandwich baggies. Meal prepping is also nice, so you have food “ready to go”. I cook 1 night a week, usually a chicken dish and either burger or fish dish, then tupperware up the leftovers for dinners the rest of the week. Soups, stews and chilis are great in the crockpot, and all cheap to make. Eggs, onions and potatoes are guarantees that you’ll never starve, because they are so versatile. Fried taters/eggs for breakfast, baked potatoes, stuffed with cheese and whatever meat and/or veggies you have around. Onions flavor everything. Stir fries with rice/veggies and leftover meat. Cheese quesadillas are a fast and filling meal, ready in minutes, or make breakfast wraps with eggs/cheese rolled up in them. Boil chicken, then shred, and make chicken salad for sandwiches and/or add some to pasta with sauce. Hardboil eggs for devilled eggs, egg salad for sandwiches or dice to put in salads for extra protein. I ALWAYS buy a turkey at thanksgiving! At $.39/lb, don’t think there’s a cheaper meat out there, and for like $7, you can get a HUGE bird, roast, then pick it and freeze for later…turkey soup, turkey sandwiches, turkey salad, pot pie…etc. ONE turkey, picked and frozen, can literally last you for MONTHS! Look online for new recipes, and keep on cooking!!!! You’re doing GREAT!
👍💯
At least ditch the junky bread ffs
Thank you for sharing these great tips. I am grateful for the work you have put out helping people survive.
The part where he was struggling to put the eggs on top of the bagel was my fave. Raw life right there 💀
Intermittent fasting gets it to $20 a week.
You’ll be lacking at your required daily calories intake, you could survive on that but you’ll get skinny as the time goes
So you shopped at Walmart and proceeded to cook only things that weren’t from Walmart….
Take that back bread, (peanut butter you said you had) and pancake mix are getting used
Bro go to family dollar and buy a non stick copper pan ok. It’ll make your eggs look better and use butter on it
Luckily for me I have a Jon’s nearby and it’s a 5 minute walk. So I can afford to buy some stuff for the day
I am often jealous of other people who have fresh produce at their Walmart and local low priced stores. My Walmart and aldi is horrible with produce. The potatoes are lucky to last a week before rotting and the bell peppers often have mold in the middle.
What on earth this is exactly what I needed to watch and it started in auto play 😄
:0
❣️Diagonal
🙂 you will save even more money by making homemade pancakes vs the premix
im sorry my dear sir, but you did NOT buy that Peanut butter, NOR did you buy the jelly on that grocery run. so now what? is the budget $40? $50? $97.85? $100???? you have led me astray with these additional items, and i cant allow the title to be the same ANYMORE! i have reported your video for false information. i hope you learn this lesson and take it to heart. one more lie like this, and i will personally attack your channel, AAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNND…. i will get youtube to take lawful action.
Thanks for the video. But for the love god please use a cutting board!
Oh no peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are not healthy
If your vegetarian go to asian markets they’re always fresher and even cheaper than Walfart also produce that you’ll never find at there if you know how to cook it🙂🖤
🤣🤦♂️ The egg flip on the bagel
Plot twitst – you dont really live off $30 a week but live a lavish luxurious well fulfilled life with every splash that is available to your means – stop with the B S man and just admit to your “loyal” followers that you are misleading them 😂😅😂😅🖖🖖💀👊👊🍆🥇🥈🥉
Potato skin is the healthiest part. Just wash it good with dawn or joy
Great Videos. Thank you!!!!!
You could start brewing your own tea, It’s cheap to make and if you want to sweeten it, I use a 0 calorie liquid sweetener called fasweet that does the job. it also makes the tea taste better if you add a clove.
You’re not gonna cut off your finger with a cheap knife, you’re gonna fucking cut it off trying to cut things in the air dude
This guy is very thoughtful in ways a a lot of kids these days will never be. I think he is perfect son in law material.
Really I have live on less than that no big deal
A 30 dollar week where I live is unsustainable
$20 week would be possible but I’d end up with no money for anything else
People are so full of hatred … good job man .
Fam don’t title the video “how to live on 30 dollars a week” if that 30 dollars literally only covers your grocery bill. Bro I can’t even afford my own groceries at all bc my entire pay check goes to paying rent.
Where can I find cheap fruits and vegetables?
I enjoy going to walmart for the electronic section and the Starbucks coffee
If you use potatoes for “most of your nutrients”, keep the skin on, that’s where a lot of the nutrients are.
That horrible white wheat bread is SOOO unhealthy…it’s full of additives and preservatives….very little goodness…just empty calories….drains most people…Id never buy that rubbish…even though I live off a low budget
What would help you would be to have a little cutting board for your potatoes, carrots etc .
I don’t care what I eat I’m just trying to stay alive 😂
If you were to buy these food in Walmart Canada 2021…. bread is already $3 a loaf, frozen fruits $6, orange is $1.28 lb, organic salad $6.49..some food price has gone up 20% since last year..😂😂
i make my own bread rather than buying it bc its cheaper and i can make it whichever texture i prefer.
I could do better getting cheaper things. BTW, im indian. go to there stores. recommend getting rice there
I spend $30 on food a month
How? And do u live in the us?
@Deji Iledare yes I don’t live in the US so i have cheaper alternatives 😅 I regret posting that comment here
Eat those potato peels. Just scrub the potato well and cook it!
I love this video. But for chicken I prefer Whole Foods. Yes it’s more expensive but it shows in nutrition. Tyson or other chicken at Walmart is super bland. The chicken lives in cramped dirty conditions and pumped with saltwater and additives. Your money talks and helps creating more sustainable and healthy living conditions for animals
I love Walmart. I’m just trying to survive.
This is super old but if you still need help cooking. I got you 😉
I love Walmart
Man that whole fucking egg was stuck to that pan like damn.
So cute when I see you eggs are sticky to the pan. Because it is exactly how I ended up with my eggs. I laughed so hard , LOL. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Yo millionaire, U can’t be serious cutting that potato like that. Cheap knife has nothing 2 do if U cut off a finger however stupidity does. Needless 2 say Your technique needs work. Invest in a cutting board. Since U like 2 read than add a cookbook 2 ur staples. Anyone who can read can cook…
Carry on asyou are
Life without a joke is not worth living
Please kindly continue 🙏 posting 📫 your much appreciated videos
Due to increases in CPI this video has been renamed “How To Live On $75 A Week”
Great video. Thank you so much for the tips.
$30 budget. Your blessed
POTAT-o mash them smash them put ‘em in a stew
Don’t buy packaged chicken parts when you can butcher a whole chicken and be FAR more efficient. Big rookie mistake.
Boil a pound of pasta add a some mayo and three cans of tuna , you have tuna casserole for a week.
Hey bro 30 dollars a weeks is a lot for a student like me. I have to over see 30 dollars an month worth of food because of my money is very limited from wtihin. Keep up with your content bro
Did this dude just call the shop “wallfart”
If you try and live off potatoes do Not peel them. So many vitamins in the skin.
Lol @ walfart.😆
This is good info, but you used quite a few things you didnt buy. Why not use some of the three loaves of bread you bought instead of the pricey bagel you had? You didnt buy potatoes or eggs, but had them.
Your crude comment calling Walmart “Walfart” is wrong. Walmart employs more people than any other workplace in the USA. Walmart allow people living in campers, cars, RV ETC. to sleep overnight in their lots for free. Walmart allows Salvation Army, girl scouts, churches to sell their goods outside their stores. Taxes paid to local, State and Feds is huge. You called Walmart Walfart yet you shopped there. You Sir are a Hypocrite.
Nate I like my crockpot/slow cooker. That is what I like about it is that when’s you get home the meal isn’t easy. Please use a board, plastic or wood for cutting foods. And I suggest you include celery in your crockpot as it, with carrots and onion not only adds natural salt but is the base of any sauce. Then add a knob of butter, a squeeze of half a lemon, alternatively a few drops of Apple Cider vinegar to add flavour to your meal. When you cook carrots on their own try adding some soya sauce, a knob of butter and sugar and glazing your carrots.
Watching you cook that egg without using a non-stick or carbon steel pan or something was gruesome to watch, and yet this was a very informative and useful video all around, so I’ll give you a pass on that.
I’ll cook for you
every singe person studen is here
10 lb bag of thigh and legs for 2.90 (.29 c lb) so cheap just toss what you don’t eat…..slow cook em in a pressure cooker..then in the oven for seasoning and sauce…..about 1 hr. total. I have cooked them so the meat is just falling off the bone so you can strip them and do all kinds of things ..a bag of those and a bag of potatoes can last a week almost by themself.
You need a cutting board
You have so many great ideas, but about a third of the items you use for your challenge weren’t purchased on your challenge. So, not very accurate. This was more s $50/week challenge, which is still good
Total of all things used was more than $30 😂😂😂😂
haha come cook for me! lol jokes
This vid is about living cheap not cooking he’s also just telling you what works for him, like just look at the content and extract what you can
I don’t want to be skinny like you though
Can also make biscuits with that pancake/baking mix.
Not ready for prime time
I know people who live solely on dollar store food.
About a third of all Russians live on $140 a month.
This guy’s a brilliant yutbr, good chance he got 3 weeks of food ‘sponsored’; potentially including Walmart, Crock-Pot, wf, Brita… Maybe even Anthony Bourdain 🤔
And has fun doing it!😇
Thanks Man!
Me just cereal and sandwiches and noodles lol
@Nate – Hey dude, had a busy weekend with valentines (You sent me some stuff over chat) seems it wont let me respond….
Wall- mart has the cheapest food????🤣
Yeah right says Aldi
Or you can go to mcdonalds a couple of days and then eat fruit and other stuff…
For about $60 atleast.
yall better leave him alone
