In just the few short years that I’ve lived on my own, I had acquired enough stuff to fill multiple U-Haul trucks. How was this possible? Why do Americans have so many belongings and are they necessary to feel fulfilled in life?
When I moved into my new apartment in August I wanted to try something new. I made the decision to adopt a way of living known as minimalism. Contrary to what you may have heard, the goal of minimalism is NOT to deprive yourself of materialistic goods, but rather to focus on the items that add value to your life.
In today’s society, we find ourselves with duplicate items. How many of us have a cell phone graveyard drawer in our home? What about that old microwave in your basement? Why do we have three coffee pots?

The problem with minimalism and a small space is that it only works if you’re single, you rarely entertain guests and everything you own fits on a couple bookshelves, a laptop and a USB/tablet and into a suitcase. If you’ve got kids, you need the extra space to isolate yourself from the mess and the screaming/crying and lots of storage for their stuff.

I have become an hoarder and the last few years I’m trying to break on getting away from it. I have down size a lot lately, but I need to work on getting rid of more things. The second hand store is reopening next wk. I’m going to go there and get rid of more. You can get around in my place and it’s not stacked up to the ceiling, so it’s not that bad. I know it’s not healthy to live with sooo much things, I find. My place doesn’t smell, and not great how it looks, so thats why I know I need to work on downsizing in a better home. I believe in God and with prayers he will help me to get threw this. One day my home will look even more better. Your smart to live with less things. Nice home. 👍 tumbs up.

Minimalism should be a way to enhance your life by getting rid of none essential things and let you focus on whats important. Getting rid of the toaster for the sake of getting rid of things might be extreme (toasters will save you time and makes making toast easy hence the name toaster). Your apartment should be practical not empty.
Your mother must be absolutely proud of you! At such a young age, already live on your own, knows about finances and the importance of knowing what is and is not needed in everyday life. That’s a great plant you got there! In my culture, that’s a money tree, with its leaves resembling coins. Great auspicious item to have around, looks great, and helps to purify the air!
Nate, get some acoustic absorbing panels for your walls. Your listening and recording audio quality will benefit greatly… you don’t have to buy the expensive foam stuff, several towels layered over a simple wood frame will work wonders- add some dye and or paint and you can pass them off as high art. Thank me later when you can actually hear those speakers without so many short reflections and phase problems.

Great video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried – Rozardner Immediate Meal Reality (do a google search)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for how to cook healthy snacks without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my old buddy Taylor after many years got great success with it.

I live like this, we call it being poor.
For me, Minimalist life is a life with minimum body movements for doing daily chores. (Like, if your brush is in bathroom mirror cabinet then u have to open the cabinet door first then take out brush close the mirror-door then again open it then put it back then again close it, instead you can just keep it beside your basin tap therefore achieving minimum body movement for brushing in morning).
Minimalist in terms of time, how less seconds it takes to complete a particular workflow.
Steps:
Imagine yourself in your laziest or sickest mode.
Imagine your body in a 3D space with all the right measurement of limbs. Now replace your hands with long long many straight-lined-projections extending to almost 270° from your both shoulders on two sides of body. Now arrange your essentials across the surfaces of those two 270°-simi-circular-spheres with radius equal to the length of your half-folded-hand.
Organize stuffs in such a way so that even in your most halfconscious/sleepy state, even if you throw around things, obviously with minimum body movement and doing minimum number of steps, you can complete workflow without creating any mess

We have also minimized kitchen appliances. The kitchen counter looks much better now. We worked hard to get rid of the microwave. We kept a list where we wrote down every time the microwave was used and every time we avoided using it. After 6 months we only used it 4 times, so we got rid of it at the beginning of this year. 🙂
Where do you store your clothes?
You are young. You do not have children and you do not have a real life so that is why you live that way.
You’re gonna wreck your neck by doing that desk/laptop setup. It’s not ergonomic. You want the middle of the screen at eye level, and your elbow and wrist at the same level.
