El Salvador’s President has threatened to increase punishments for hundreds of imprisoned gang members with gang violence surging.
A state of emergency is in place and rights groups say President Nayib Bukele is fighting brutality with brutality.

If those are really gang members then I understand but I think what you should offer is opportunity. If you don’t have anything else like a good source with a job then what else will people do but group up and take from the weak. You can be cruel to these individuals but at the same time have a timeline where they can achieve release from their prisons and they will have the opportunity to respectably work to earn a livable wage. Encouraged The people who are not in prison not to join these type of gangs and remind them of the opportunity that they have and they have a choice
I’m a local, and once they get out they go back to the gang, if they try to get away from that life they will try to bring them back. We had a couple of news reports back in the day of gang members that tried to start anew only to be murdered by their old gang.
@Amakegure I will say I’m speaking with ignorance because I’m not in your country. It is my belief that if you give people different opportunities and you have to provide to protection for them to make the opportunities then they will choose a different path. If I was forced to be in that type of environment then I would be in that same situation if I didn’t have options and that also means protection to do those options. My point is you can’t just be harsh without options. All over the world we are imprisoning those who don’t have many options and it’s easy to look at these people is scums of the earth but in reality the ruling class and the oligarchs are creating the environments and they are protected because the police in the military works for them.
