Tunisians go to the polls for parliamentary elections on Saturday.
The vote comes exactly 12 years after street vendor Mohamed Bouazizi set fire to himself.
His actions triggered the revolution that ousted longtime leader Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
However, that time’s economic turmoil is still a part of daily life.
Al Jazeera’s Assed Baig reports.

Foods items is expensive also in Europe. This is the situation every where in the world. But it’s temporary and Tunisia will be okay again 🙏🏿
How did you know its temporary🤓
I was visiting Tunisia from next door and was shocked at how expensive everything is compared to Libya just next door, also how empty many many shelves were at many shops. Somehow libya with no stability in a decade is faring better than tunisia by a long shot
You are arab
That’s so weird! Still I saw a clipnabout watter delivery sistem going bust due to lack of maintenance.
Its worldwide😪
The Honorable President Moncef Marzouki was right, there is no place for Qais Saeed, the stubborn and reckless who was plagued by his arrogance and putting himself the counsellor, Judge and Executor. History will record him as a whirlwind soon over. We repeat and confirm that the life span of Qais Saeed’s foolishness is short and on the verge of expire.
📍Fully Parliamentary system the only success format for Tunisia 🇹🇳 democracy
He destroys his house, who pursues [illegitimate] gain,
but he who hates [corrupt] gifts will live.
Tarek el-Tayeb Mohammed Bouazizi lives… 🔥
As a Pakistani I fully support love and respect Tunisia and it’s beautiful people from Pakistan 🙂
I am telling you between 7-24-19 to 4-9-1956 Tunsia has only been ruled by Monarchists, Liberals, Socialists who supported Secularism. under Athoritarian Parties they allowed EU to ban Tunisa from trade which caused what you see in the video. it’s ONLY recently when Ennahda was Majority since Tunisa recent revolution where Secularists have been changing the political rules before heading over to Ennahda where current President has King like authority to manipulate the political landscape except for recent Elections. Where BOYCOTT by the Public has cripplied the democratic process now you have political crisis where Govt under secularist in Presidency with Parlimentary abilities has disconnected to the wider Tunsian Public voting base.
At this point, Tunsia govt position are all unelected people with majority no turnout who earn seats without being elected by the Public. All appointed by the President & secularists interests. As Economy turns for the worst, Ennahda needs to take advantage of Secularists who are anti-democraticly selected give an alternative path to course correct the economy & it’s society’s values..
