South Sudan unified army: Gov’t troops and ex-rebels join ranks

The ranks of South Sudan’s army are now made up of both government troops and former rebel fighters.
It is part of the peace deal signed in 2018.
However, many in the new army do not have weapons, due to an arms embargo – and that is raising concerns about how it will maintain peace and security.
