If you like your current role, you can also try bringing any counter offers you received to get you a raise at your current company.
Working healthcare…..lateral moves for the past 12 years.
Depends on your sector, I’m stuck in haulage it’s really difficult getting away from being a steering wheel attendant. Pay has peaked but job isn’t fulfilling.
The trick now, is stay long enough to make sure your 401k gets fully vested, then jump now that companies are combatting this by delaying your vest for 2-3 years
When you switch, make sure the new job is confirmed and contract ready before you hand in your notice/resignation. Leave on good terms just in case your old job offers more in the future.
my company just gave me a 16k year raise
Its important to always keep actively looking for a job even within the first months of a new job. You can always use your job offer to negotiate a new raise at your current company.
Yea but that ain’t easy
Some places don’t even give out raises 😂
As a small business owner I hate to see this on YouTube. It cost so much money to train new employees it’s unreal.
Although this is correct money isn’t everything. If you where you work at is good for you, although you make less your still winning in the long term. But it depends on each persons situation
I’ve considered moving, but my job is very specific. Im a welder, a carpenter, a truck driver, and a mechanic with not enough experience to specify one. Starting to get worried that my experience is so broad that i wont be able to leave lol
Wait, you guys get raises?
Depends, if you work for Apple in 20 years. The stocks would make way more than you can on avg salary when jumping around
You lose your pto accrual rate as well but if you can negotiate that on the way in to another company, great.
Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener.
Hey bud, accidentally became the president of the United States and got impeached. Should I aim for monarchy?
Also depending on your value you can leverage a raise at your company then use that new amount to leverage more at another company
Two years and then at the end it’s 3??
And no one will hire you because you have a record of leaving a company after a year
Haha I’ve been doing this and then I seen this all over the internet a year or two ago but I’ve been doing this ever since I was allowed to work at 16. I’m 30 almost at 100k
But now looking towards owning a business to 10X my life.
Gotta take I to consideration culture.
This is true but I just want to throw one little thing out there just a bit of a warning. Caution. Friend of mine moved to another company few years after having negotiated a good wage and then once he got hired on within the same year he lost his job and couldn’t seem to pick up another one in the same field. Plus his old job did not want him back lol
Instructions unclear..
I quit McDonald’s and applied at another expecting more money. I went from 17.50 to 17$
Exactly what i do
My friend is a welder. He has changed companies as a welder 16 times in the past 23 years. That is how he gets a raise. He figured out to make more money because of his valuable skills.
I think I’m in the rare exception. In private equity and I have a carry allocation. I would have to get a serious raise to justify leaving.
Can you make a video on what stay at home jobs have been rising in demand in the last 5-10 years?
*Every Year
Stay on that grind team. Never settle or anything, always strive for better, because you fucking deserve it. Show the world who tf you really are 💪
I’ve done this twice since 2019 and each time I increased exactly 25%
As someone pointed out the problem isn’t staying at hte same company. It’s staying in the same position. The CEO of walmart started out unloading trucks. The key is, he didn’t stay in that position unloading trucks.
Just be wary of companies with a ‘last in first out’ approach should there be redundancies.
Very true. I’ve actually never gotten a raise but every new job I’ve gone to has had better and better pay
My middle school diplomas tells me he’s not talking about jobs at the dollar store?
Nothing like someone who hasn’t really done the W2 thing giving advice about a W2 job.
I’ve been with my company for 13 years and make 230% more than what I made year one and never asked for a raise. Probably an anomaly but performance makes people petrified.
I call bullshit. Think about moving cost. I know guys that stayed in one place and made less that had more.
This idea always give me a bad taste because there’s so much to learn. So if you make a little less but work with absolute killers in your industry in the long term you will win.
money aint evertthing
Regarding the end of the video – this is why you hide your resume gaps. Don’t add that stuff and your good!
I tell anyone who will listen this. All of my largest pay increases came from switching companies. The simple fact is some people are adverse to change or prefer the status quo for themselves. In the end a change like this can be risky sometimes depending on the businesses, and you have to be ok with that.
Until the company that hires you…..fires you.
This does not apply in many fields. Especially cooperate foster care. Loyalty is paid much better at least if you find a great place. This is a losing mentality tbh.
Basically what my cousin did to go from $14 an hour to $30+ within a few years
I would agree on this point. The only exception is if you’re already on the “high” position. Let’s say you are already at 300k+. Very few, if any, will give you 450k+ for same role. Speaking from experience.
Poor advice for some
wouldn’t a company take into account that you’re only going to work for them for a year
I could see this. Just depends on what you are doing. I have a very specific job that doesn’t really pay me anymore
Left a couple jobs making less money for better quality of life
But this is why some companies will ask you to sign a non-compete. You can leave and look for a higher paying job, in a completely new industry. Which will cause you to not get a higher pay as you’ll be starting something new……
Lol anyone reading this saying its a good idea, dont listen to these yt clowns there is not trick or anything to replace hard work. All these videos of how to or do this and this will happen, these ppl only make money off of your view wake up guys
Very clever showing Mack leaving Airrack to work for MrBeast 😂
No one will hire you because your past experience of leaving often, they rather find someone with the same skill level and not do that
Can someone explain this to me in fortnite terms
This is me after going from the military, to police officer, to airline pilot 😅
3-5% barely keeps up with inflation. they’re basically not even giving you a raise
This is coming from a dude who has not worked for an employer for over a decade.
Or you move up in the company you are at. If you are actually a good employee with initiative. my wage has gone up 275% in 13 yrs at the same company.
Yes they bring in overpriced Free Agents to try and win a Superbowl and flop. Meanwhile the team that drafted well and developed internally beats them.
I got an 18k raise at the same company twice
Honestly just dodging layoffs and not getting booted back to entry level has been a whole struggle these past few years for my field lol
Honestly, this works until you weigh things like job satisfaction, environment, and company perks. I know many people who moved around for the pay raise, but they were always on the catch up learning new systems and procedures at a new company, always proving themselves and they often end up hating the benefits or environment so want to move on. I found a company I loved, who paid well and allowed employee growth and industry benchmarks their employees often. Great benefits, great work environment. I don’t feel the need to leave for more money when I love my job. Doing this same job at my current level at a different company would not pay me more, and if it did. It wouldn’t come with the amazing medical and retirement benefits. I’m good.
Depends what industry your in as well
You guys getting raises?
Yes
It’s not always about money. There is also value in enjoying the work that you do and the people you work with. If you find a job you like, it may be worth more to stay there than a raise to go work somewhere else where you may not enjoy yourself as much.
This is a lie. Most companies will keep you within their pay band unless you loop extremely well
There’s an upper limit too. If you’re nearing the top of your field, the jump can sometimes offer little more pay but you have to consider your perks and working environment.
This advice is only true if you’re not getting promoted and stagnating in your role
This is def true lol I went from Burger King to a weld job and to abother weld job. Jumped from $14/hr to $17/hr then to $23.43/hr and now I’m at $27.46/hr at the same company. Been here for 1yr and 8mo. I’m already learning new skills to become a front end web developer. It’ll take me a while but I’ll see a huge increase in pay once I swap careers. For the mean time, Ima stay at my company. Made $64k in 2023 and from that job alone I already have $24.8k in my 401K which ima use as a down payment to a house
the matrix expert
Yep. I was working at one place for $25hr, went to another company and they paid $28hr.
Laughs in IBEW 🤣🤣🤣
That is unless they dont want to pay you more at the next company.
Hahaha tell that to pharmacists. A lot of us see basically no raises year to year no matter if we change companies or stay.
That’s funny I did that in my very early 20s started my own business around 23 and the rest of history
I highly recommend this strategy
He’s not lying. I’m 23. On my 3rd company, by choice. Went from 15 an hour at 19, to 24 an hour at 21 working my ass off, to 28 an hour in Climate Controlled QC Lab now. But there’s a flip side. My position doesn’t pay much higher so I’m better off using my benefits to get a degree and double my pay here. When you’re young it’s a good play to switch if there’s a better opportunity
Doesn’t apply to startup equity.
How come you don’t do that with your content? Switch platforms every 2-3 years.
A manager once fired an employee and rehired him immediately so that the hardworking employee could get a raise.
Yet they discourage people from switching jobs😅
My current problem is that i really, really, really like my company. Not really a problem. But I’m so not motivated to move around. They treat me well. They do give pay raises and promotions pretty regularly. But i also just like being treated like a human.
One thing I’ve noticed too is a new company is very likely to give great raises the first 2-4 years (assuming you ask and are good at your job). I’ve personally gone from $20 up to $30 in 2.5 years, left for another company and make $35 now within my first year with the new company. 75% increase in 3.5 years
If you do this then your the office ” pest “
This is because there are a lot of menial paper pushing jobs that just need someone to fill in. If your job was important enough for them to care about you then they’ll at least match the competitions offer
Yeah and you wondering why you got layoff during bear market.
I went from 60k a year to over 130k a year strictly by doing what this video explains
it’s simple, if you are not in demand, you get paid less.
Truth 💯
Unless you are a teacher 😢
How in the world can be fair that a company can hire someone with a higher pay than someone how has been working for that company previously? I have seen that but is that legal ?
It’s true. I do this
It is not about the money you make by switching jobs, but competences you learn in a new position. Always when you join new company you get onboarding, learn new processes etc. it makes you more qualified person and it rises the chances of getting promotion or applying for higher position.
Dont be loyal to q company. They will lay you off at the first possible moment
Right. But you are also creating a job-hopping resume, you are never gaining seniority, and you are basing all of your decisions on money. There is more to life than money and there is more than just money to consider when you take a job. About 15 years ago, I was making more money than I am now. I also worked nights and weekends and was stressed out of my mind. No thanks. At some point, enough money should be enough as to racing after the next dollar.
I am 31 year old. Live In California. I have never worked anywhere for longer than 3 1/2 years. The next job always paying more money. Started work at 19. I think it may be time to do it again. Feeling pretty stagnated. At this place now…
What if you actually like your current job and have everything set up just right there?
This is the Reddit mentality where the salary is the ONLY thing important about a job. This is a miserable way to spend a career.
Yea. But what if u leave something good to go to a new company and ends up getting fired
Non sense every interviewer will not hire you because you have no staying power.
