Lebanon bread price rises for the first time in 10 years

The price of bread in Lebanon has increased for the first time in 10 years, as the collapsing local currency causes food prices to soar.

The lira has lost more than 80 percent of its value on the black market in the last eight months.

The drop in value is part of a wider economic crisis in the import-dependent country.

Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from Beirut.

Well the real reason is Saudi Arabia that stoped giving money to the Lebanese gvt. Since MBS took over they stopped supporting lebanon.

    • H A says:

Why do they have to support at the first place?

    • Frenchkisssss says:

H A Thats a good question, they have always subsidized Jordan and Lebanon for some reasons, but since that Hariri incident, they stopped funding the gvt… they used to deposit 2 bil$ in cash to the Lebanese Central Bank. They stopped sending money back in 2018. I think it has something to do with the Hezbollah gaining influence in the country … cheers

“Whoever controls the volume of money in our country is absolute master of all industry and commerce…when you realize that the entire system is very easily controlled, one way or another, by a few powerful men at the top, you will not have to be told how periods of inflation and depression originate.”
~20th President James A. Garfield before assassination.

“Let me issue and control a nation’s money and I care not who writes the laws.”
    ~Mayer Amschel Rothschild

“It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes.”
    ~President Andrew Jackson 1834

“If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution by morning.”
    ~President Andrew Jackson, 1834

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around, will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”
“I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”
~Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816.

“Today no war has been declared—and however fierce the struggle may be, it may never be declared in the traditional fashion. Our way of life is under attack. Those who make themselves our enemy are advancing around the globe. The survival of our friends is in danger. And yet no war has been declared, no borders have been crossed by marching troops, no missiles have been fired.
If the press is awaiting a declaration of war before it imposes the self-discipline of combat conditions, then I can only say that no war ever posed a greater threat to our security. If you are awaiting a finding of “clear and present danger,” then I can only say that the danger has never been more clear and its presence has never been more imminent.”
    ~JFK

“That is simple. In the Colonies we issue our own money. It is called COLONIAL SCRIP. We issue it in proper proportion to the demands of trade and industry to make the products pass easily from the producers to the consumers. In this manner, creating for ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power, and we have no interest to pay no one.”
~ Benjamin Franklin before the first central bank

“…You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money…”
    ~Abraham Lincoln

“The death of Lincoln was a disaster for Christendom. There was no man in the United States great enough to wear his boots and the bankers went anew to grab the riches. I fear that foreign bankers with their craftiness and tortuous tricks will entirely control the exuberant riches of America and use it to systematically corrupt civilization.”
    ~Otto von Bismarck

*Which new features added to the bread for increasing price?*
*Bread is exactly 100% same after increasing price.*
*Or it’s a pocket designed/pocket gamblers decision to increase without being inventive in their products.*

    • gery port says:

@Elijah Lawrence *Which new features added to the flour by helding and adjusting the price?*
*In Democratic countries, price of consumer goods can only go up only if new features added to the products, services and these features must be different from its(products, services) previous state.*
*Or Lebanese are under pocket gamblers rule, who never need to be inventive in their consumer products and consumer services?*

    • Elijah Lawrence says:

@gery port just conveying what was stated in the video. You also have to understand government run pricing will always go up in a financial crisis in an attempt to rebalance the economy. Your point is only valid in a healthy free market, which is not that case in either respect for Lebanon right now. I hear what you’re saying, it just doesn’t apply to the context of the video in the slightest

    • Elijah Lawrence says:

@gery port Lebanon is in an economic crisis while simultaneously settling into a less than 100 day old government that’s still as a corrupt as the system it just abolished. Inflation of basic goods is simply a step in a desperate attempt to rebalance the economy before making the decision to put the country into further debt with a bailout.

    • gery port says:

@Elijah Lawrence *I read ur both points. Almost every struggling government feeds pocket gamblers in the crisis directly, indirect via raising consumer goods cost only but in the world of business, consumer is the boss and it’s the responsibility of the consumer to question “new features?”, “how it’s different from the products previous state after raising price(or exactly same as previously)?”.*
*If consumer (boss) fails to questions, then more and more pocket gamblers starts to flourish in your country. Today it’s flour, tomorrow it could be next consumer goods.*

    • gery port says:

@Elijah Lawrence *No country can ever remove it’s crisis by increasing price of flour(or you name one country which came out of crisis after increasing g flour price without “new features” or “innovation in flour”, across in this whole world).*
*It’s pocket gamblers fame tactics to keep on increasing artificial (man-made) crisis (also termed as pocket designed crisis) and directly, indirectly keep on increasing their personal wealths.*
      *God bless Lebanon.*

  • James Einstein says:

What happens when you base a currency on nothing? Eventually it becomes worthless. Coming to a country you live in soon.

    • SAFINA HIGH SCHOOL says:

Can a country actually base a currency on nothinng?
Would it have no economic resources to back their medium of exchange?

    • James Einstein says:

@SAFINA HIGH SCHOOL it’s all built on confidence and lies, a currency begins it’s life backed by real wealth in silver and gold, has done for 5000 years, this is quickly replaced with nothing but confidence. The illusion of wealth stays with a currency for at most 40 to 50 years before debt becomes so much that people realise that money is worthless and a loaf of bread costs more than a weeks salary.
You will see these countries go first, then it will spread out to all emerging countries and will create widespread panic.
One or two major counties will go after that and before you know it we are all fuxked

    • SAFINA HIGH SCHOOL says:

      @James Einstein
      1. Backing your currency with Gold is quite a challenge when most of your gold was plundered by colonialists.
      2. All currencies are built on confidence. Even Gold coins. The problems come when the confidence is broken by monopolistic corporations controlling central banks.
      3. The real wealth lies in activities and resources that satisfy actual human needs.. like land, oil, gold, silver, labour force and knowledge. The benefits of these resources should be allowed to circulate within the country under good supervision. Not private corporations or imperialistic rulers.
      4. Remember that a few bankers get richer with every recession or even a great depression. It is this monopolistic control of currencies that should be stopped.
      5. The fall of a currency isn’t as dangerous as the crippling of economic activities or the wrath of hungry peasants. We should plan our governments with this in mind.

Am from Malaysia but currently we’re only can feed 70% of our people and the balance needs to be imported from Thailand and Vietnam. This can affect the food security of the country if the current generation don’t want to be farmers and if the exporters don’t want to supply for other reasons. When I go to certain places, the paddy fields were made way for development. After covid19, I can see how important that a country needs to have a food security so when I see Lebanon, this is something that everyone needs to learn from the situation.

    • WY M says:

Im from China…been to Malaysia cool place esp Penang! Agree….if they get rid of land to build apartments and if they only have food to feed 70% of the people then that is terrifying….imagine what would happen if the country you buy from says no. Water wise….imagine if we ran out of clean water. Food and water security and self reliance is very important no matter where we are from so do start growing something if you can. It is terrible that this pandemic is making lives hard for so many people….China isnt doing that well…i mean the land is gone for big buildings, soil pollution is devastating and farmers dont earn enough hence why china import alot too…..anyways thank you for the lovely chat and this positivity. I wish you , your love ones and your country well. Stay healthy and I hope we can start growing sthing on our own.

reliance and forced cohesion to the zionist rothschild federal reserve is the problem. this is known as the reset. it involves banking and they are virtually controlling supply and value through the many tools at their disposal – disposal as in money is not an object as long as you can print them. *coronavirus cold* _dont worry cash spreads virus_

    now they are efficient thieves

i am living in a modern western nation and the shelves are minimal here. its not just you.

usury is the problem. they are bankrupting whole soverign nations, then they become reliant on their loans. you are then owned and will never be able to pay it back. _thats how usury works_

    sending out the love ✌
