The COVID-19 pandemic has caused logistical headaches for global shippers thanks to raised transport costs, quarantine measures and extra paperwork. China’s zero-tolerance approach to the coronavirus has not helped: in May it closed one of its busiest ports because of a COVID-19 outbreak. That has affected the supply of Chinese products to the United States, dampening the Thanksgiving Day holiday sales, when shoppers are traditionally on the hunt for bargains.
