Much needed fuel has arrived in Lebanon to ease the country’s crippling shortages. The first of several truck convoys carrying Iranian fuel from Syria was arranged by the Iran-backed Hezbollah party. Importing fuel from Iran risks US action under the current sanctions. Dr Mirna Doumit, president of the Order of Nurses in Beirut, said three of the city’s hospitals had been destroyed in the explosion in the port area. “So we had to evacuate patients who were in those hospitals to others. In addition, we have two other hospitals that were partially destroyed.
