More than 3 million Lebanese face poverty

More than three million Lebanese – almost half the population – are facing a tough Ramadan. The monthly cost of iftar, or the meal to break their fast, now costs 2.5 times the minimum wage. The World Bank says food prices there have become the highest in the region. Nigeria: Corruption, land confiscations blamed for rising poverty

A scramble for scarce land in Nigeria is pushing millions of people into poverty, according to activists. In 2018 Nigeria overtook India as the country with the largest number of people living in extreme poverty. Iraq devalues currency by a fifth, the most since 2003

0 Iraq’s government recently devalued the local currency – the Iraqi dinar – by more than 20 percent. It is the biggest currency devaluation against the dollar since the 2003 fall of Saddam Hussein. Prices of everyday goods and services have suddenly skyrocketed, fuelling fear and anger among many Iraqis who have spent decades struggling to survive financially.
