For three decades the Europa Hotel in Belfast hosted more journalists than tourists, survived 33 bombings by the Provisional Irish Republican Army and held the dubious honour of being Europe’s most bombed hotel. It was both a target and a reporters’ refuge during the bloody conflict in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. DR Congo orders Goma evacuation after Mount Nyiragongo erupts

A volcanic eruption near the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo has forced thousands of people to flee for safety. At least five people died in a car crash in the panic. Neighbouring Rwanda has opened its border to let in those fleeing the eruption. World reacts as Jerusalem tensions escalate

More than 200 people, mostly Palestinians, have been injured in clashes with Israeli police in occupied East Jerusalem. Violence broke out at the Al Aqsa Mosque and elsewhere in the city.
