Super Typhoon Goni batters Philippines, one million evacuated

A super typhoon has barrelled into the eastern Philippines bringing “catastrophic” winds and intense rains as about a million people were evacuated in its projected path including in the capital, Manila, where the main international airport was ordered closed. Officials said at least seven people had been killed. Powerful earthquake jolts central Philippines, homes damaged

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake has struck the central Philippines, killing one person and injuring dozens more. A family in Masbate Province were left trapped when their house collapsed. Cracks appeared in roads and debris fell to the ground. There is no threat of a tsunami, but authorities are warning people to prepare for aftershocks. Marawi siege: Philippine army kills two pro-ISIL commanders

Two top Philippine commanders of an armed alliance that have declared loyalty to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS), have been killed, according to authorities, in a major blow to an ongoing armed rebellion in the country’s south.
