Egypt puts on a show as it moves royal mummies to new home

Royal ancient mummies have been transported through Egypt’s capital of Cairo to their new home, in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Crowds witnessed the multimillion-dollar spectacle of the 18 kings and four queens making the journey through Cairo in the highly anticipated “Pharoah’s Golden Parade”. Egypt hopes the event will help resurrect its struggling tourism industry. Jordan prince ‘under house arrest’ amid security crackdown

The former crown prince of Jordan says he is under house arrest in Amman. The military has denied detaining Prince Hamzah bin Hussein, but says a former minister, a member of the royal family and others have been detained as part of a continuing investigation. In a video, Prince Hamzah accused Jordan’s leaders of corruption, incompetence and harassment. Lebanon, Egypt and Gulf countries have all expressed solidarity with Jordan’s King Abdullah. Myanmar death toll edges up to 550 as online crackdown tightens

At least five more people have been killed in Myanmar in the latest crackdown on anti-coup protesters. But threats of violence and arrests have done little to deter demonstrators more than two months after the military coup. Taiwan seeks arrest warrant for suspect in deadly train crash

Officials in Taiwan say the death toll from Friday’s train crash could rise, as they search through the wreckage. Families of some of the 51 people known to have died so far held a vigil at the site. Dozens killed after Taiwan train derails in tunnel

Investigation under way into Suez Canal blockage

Experts have boarded the container ship Ever Given, which was dislodged on Monday six days after it got stuck in the Suez Canal, seeking to investigate what caused the grounding that shook the global shipping industry. The Ever Given was safely anchored on Tuesday in the Great Bitter Lake, a wide stretch of water halfway between the north and south ends of the canal, after salvage teams finally freed the giant vessel on Monday afternoon. Mozambique attack: ISIL claims responsibility for Palma violence

The ISIL (ISIS) group has claimed responsibility for an attack on the town of Palma in northern Mozambique, which left dozens of people dead and thousands missing. It said its fighters had seized the town in the gas-rich region after several days of fighting. Security forces are trying to secure Palma; the exact number of people killed, injured and unaccounted for – is still unknown. Armed groups have been launching attacks in the region since 2017. Thousands flee for Thailand as Myanmar military bombs border area

Some 3,000 people from Myanmar’s southeastern Karen state fled to neighbouring Thailand after the military bombed an area held by an ethnic armed group, as Western countries condemned the escalating violence in the troubled Southeast Asian nation.
