Thousands of people gathered in Moscow’s Red Square to mark the 10th anniversary of Russia’s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. Russia says Ukraine plans to strike Crimea with HIMARS and Storm Shadow missiles

Russia’s defence minister Sergei Shoigu says Ukraine plans to strike Crimea, with long-range HIMARS artillery and Storm Shadow missiles, according to a report from Russia’s TASS news agency. “The use of HIMARS and Storm Shadow missiles outside the special operation zone will mean the full involvement of the United States and Great Britain in the conflict,” Shoigu said, adding that Russia will retaliate. Kerch bridge linking Russia to Crimea damaged in explosion

A key bridge linking the Crimean peninsula with mainland Russia has been partially destroyed in a truck explosion, Russian media reported, putting at risk a key supply route for Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine. The speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, the Duma, called it “an act of war” as the country’s investigative committee said on Saturday it had “initiated a criminal case in connection with the incident on the Crimean bridge,” adding that “a truck was blown up”. Ukraine-Russia crisis: Life inside separatist-controlled Donesk

In the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic, a breakaway region of eastern Ukraine, little has changed since the fighting broke out in 2014. Most of the people who used to live there are too scared to return because of sporadic shelling and because fears are growing about potential renewed conflict. But the young generation, many of whom were children when the conflict started, seem determined to live their lives as normally as they can. Crimea water dispute: Russia struggles to supply region

The North Crimea Canal in southern Ukraine used to supply the majority of the peninsula’s water needs. Ukraine built dams on the canal after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, saying it would only allow water to flow when Russia ends its occupation. Russia has been transporting water in, but rationing has reportedly become worse with the arrival of tens of thousands of additional Russian troops. The area has now become a potential flashpoint between Kyiv and Moscow. Russia closes access through Kerch Strait for six months

There is more tension between Russia and Ukraine, this time at sea. Russia has closed all naval access to the Kerch Strait. Ukraine said the closure is illegal and violates a treaty. Moscow has said its forces are conducting military drills in the Strait, following the mobilisation of tens of thousands of Russian troops on the Ukraine border in recent weeks. There is a treaty between Russia and Ukraine agreeing to equal access to the Azov Sea, but Russia said it has the right to close the strait for military exercises, exercises that will go on until the end of October.
