In blow to Apple, EU may require USB-C chargers for all smartphones

The European Commission is considering a plan to impose a universal charger for all brands of mobile phones, tablets and headphones. A legislative proposal presented on Thursday details why there should be a common charging port for mobile phones, tablets and headphones. The move would likely affect iPhone-maker Apple the most. Its chargers are used exclusively for Apple products. Supporters say the move would create a more convenient market for consumers. Thousands evacuated after volcano erupts on Spain’s Canary Island

Thousands of people have been told to leave their homes, after a volcanic eruption on the Spanish Canary Islands. The eruption followed a week of increasing seismic activity on the island of La Palma. With a population of 85,000, La Palma is one of the eight volcanic islands in Spain’s Canary Islands archipelago off Africa’s western coast. At their nearest point, the islands are 100km (60 miles) from Morocco. The lava’s slow advance has already consumed entire buildings and authorities are still unsure of the lava’s future path. Thousands protest amid global anger against COVID restrictions

Tens of thousands of people in several European countries, including Greece, France and Italy, have protested against anti-COVID measures. In Athens, Greek police tried to break up protests against compulsory COVID-19 vaccinations; some protesters threw petrol bombs and the police responded with tear gas. Engineers in Slovakia are hailing a new era of transport after a flying car completed its first inter-city flight. The “AirCar” completed a 35-minute journey on Monday.
