Dozens dead, millions stranded as floods hit Bangladesh, India

Heavy rain in Bangladesh has unleashed devastating floods and landslides, leaving an estimated four million people stranded. It is the start of monsoon season in the region, which lasts until October. Pakistan allows first shipment of Indian wheat to Afghanistan

A shipment of humanitarian food aid from India has been allowed to cross the land border into Pakistan on its way to Afghanistan, a rare gesture between the two countries that suspended transit trade three years ago over heightened tensions. Helicopter crashes with India’s defence chief on board: Air force

A helicopter carrying India’s chief of defence Staff General Bipin Rawat has crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, killing him and at least twelve other officials, according to the Indian Air Force (IAF). General Rawat was on his way from the Sulur IAF Station to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington in Coonoor when the IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter in which he was travelling crashed in a forested area in the Niligris district around 12:20 pm. India building its longest-ever vehicle pass in Kashmir

The Indian government is building the last of four major tunnels in Indian-administered Kashmir. Officials say this, one of Asia’s longest tunnels, will be the country’s longest.
